Smoke? From Defroster Vents.
Driving the '89 Carrera, heater fans on (red levers between seats pulled up, slider levers in dash pushed far right). Smelled something vaguely like antifreeze, figured it was the junker car ahead of me. Then smoke or vapor or something came out of, I think it was the right side defroster vents. I shut off all fans and the smoke or vapor stopped, I drove home w/o incident. Haven't looked at it yet. Any guesses?

Well of course it must be that leaking heater core
or maybe the power steering pump!

On my old 3.0 the heat exchangers had accumulated a BUNCH of water. When I finally got things warm, it looked like someone had fired up a fog machine on the interior. I FREAKED! Jumped on Pelican and the guys told me just to let it run (take it for a drive) and burn all the water out. I did just that. After the first few minutes it got much better. Had a slightly sweet smell, but that might have just been a little tiny bit of oil from the exchangers as well.
Apparently Butters wanted to go for longer drives. ![]() angela

So this wasn't a fan motor burning up? Admittedly it didn't smell anything like burning motors and wires, that acrid smell.

Permanently lubed bearing in the blower motor lost lube..motor seized, burnt the wiring leading to the motor. Not too difficult to fix. That's my guess...happened with my '70 911T.
