small time investing and election

So I have about $2k in cash in my Roth IRA.

With the election coming, I don't have the option of buying ammo, mags, or a couple of rifles...

So what is my next best step?

Keep it in cash until later in October or until Election? or after election?

Put it in some sort of index fund now? I have some fusex (small time investor Fidelity fund that tracks S&P500), could add to it...

or is there a better/differnt fund you'd recommend for $2k in the next few days/weeks?

Don't want to be involved with day trading, etc. Am 45, so a while before I can actually start pulling money out of it.

Appreciate suggestions!

In other words...If it is going to crash bad enough that your IRA is going to be worthless, there is no-place you can put investments or cash that is not going to be effected.

Think long term.
The market does not like uncertainty.
If Hillary wins there is more certainty as to the direction of things. (not an endorsement)
S&P 500 is a good place.

Invest in led .

As said, if I could invest in guns, mags, and ammo I would. Fortunately have that base fairly covered

I was thinking more on the optimist side of things.

Let me rephrase - assuming I'm gonna buy more fusex (the S&P500 index from Fidelity) am I better to buy now, or assume that in 3 weeks either the value will be about the same or it will be lower? Nothing that would potentially cause it to spike up?

Put it in pre-1967 quarters with the high silver content, they will always be worth more than face value.

What he ^ said.

Buy in and forget about it. The numbers may tank by 5% or 10% or 20%, but they'll go back up. If you want to watch things and wait for a bounce, you can do that, but it could be soon or 3 years from now, you just never know.

You've got large cap blend (fusex), why not go for the other end of the spectrum with small cap value? SCV has a history of higher returns than LCB. The two together yield a higher return over time (based on history) with a decent standard deviation (because small cap/large cap and growth/value often move in opposite directions, they yield some stability when you have both.

If by some miracle Trump got elected, I would sink some $ into coal stocks. Long term the industry is F-ed, but he might put it on life support for 4 years, and that could fuel a nice short term rise in stock prices.

REIT, stock in commercial real estate. Not a bad thing, especially in a tax deferred vehicle like an IRA so you don't have to deal with the tax consequences.

Just a tidbit, if you do a search and read about the effects of the Presidential election on the stock market, "they" haven't found a particular pattern yet. There's no telling if it will cause a drop or increase or not.

How Presidential Elections Affect the Stock Market

Citadel has over a 5% stake in bankrupt Peabody (BTUUQ). They aren't dummies over there.....

If it is only $2K...and it is already in an IRA...you are stuck with the options that your IRA offers (clearly don't pull it out). Just play the long term (since the IRA is designed for long term...retirement account) and just put in in an S&P or small cap index is that is available.

Only $2K? I certainly hope you have more set aside for retirement at age 45 than that. That said, a broadly based index fund, hopefully no load.

BTUUQ up 50% today. 65% of the float was short when last reported.
