Create a statement of work (SOW) be detailed in what you expect a contractor to do. The devil is in the details.
Get quotes based on your SOW. Don't ask this forum for construction costs because ir varies from region.

I'm not to the point of having detailed specifications yet on what I'd want, etc. I just wanted some data points on what other people have paid and what they got for that price. I'm early in the education process.

As for why I'm asking here, why not? This isn't some classified info we are talking about. It happens that several posters have replied w examples.
