2017 DeLorean for $100K?

There will be a limited run of new DeLoreans to be built starting next year. I think it's a neat idea but they're talking about a pretty stiff entry price.

I know they're quite slow but I always thought they had nice lines, too bad more of them weren't built.

Pre-Orders Now Open for the 2017 DeLorean DMC

Wheeler Dealers just did a show on one they bought and shipped back to the UK. In the show they said DeLorean built 9,000 cars but they had spare parts for 35,000 cars.

Well people are paying way more than $100K nowdays for retro rides like the Singer 911, MG LE50, etc. Based on that I'd bet they sell all of them out before the first one rolls down the assembly line.

I think they are hideous, and would pay you $4 not to park one in front of my house.

From Wikipedia:

"In October, 2011, the DeLorean Motor Company of Humble, Texas, announced intentions to sell custom-made electric DeLoreans by 2013,[10] which are still in development in part due to legal battles. In 2014, the widow of the late carmaker sued the unaffiliated Texas-based DeLorean Motor Company for misuse of trademarks and images which were never purchased after the bankruptcy of the original DMC, claiming that they were still owned by the estate of John Z. DeLorean.[11] On October 20, 2015, the lawsuit was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum in exchange for DMC having the rights to use the DeLorean Motor Company name, trademarks and logo.[12]"

Some people like them because of the "Back to the Future" involvement, but that's not enough to ensnare me.

That headlight height is enough to cause me to turn my nose up. I know it had something to do with bumper height regs, but... I don't care.

Same designer than the VW scirocco. I think the 80s guys (now in their 40s) get this design. I do.

They haven't chosen their engine supplier. I hope it isn't another **** engine!? If that thing would have originally come with a respectable engine, it would have fared A LOT better. I would actually have bought one by now if the engine wasn't crap and swap options limited.

Would be bad if you could roll the windows down. AC goes out, you bake.

Maybe if they touched it the way Bruce Canepa did the US legal 959.

I'm in my 40s. Even when I was a kid I thought the design of this car was hideous.

And the interior is just as bad as the exterior.

Im serious, if you gave it to me free I wouldn't want it

In addition to the Back to the Future attraction, also the John DeLorean story is very interesting. Aside from the whole drug thing DeLorean had a remarkable career in the automotive industry starting in the 1950's. He was a real leader in the industry back in the 60's and 70's, and his departure from GM to start his own car company was a big deal ala Preston Tucker, etc. Clearly there were many compromises made in this car to get it into production, but within the limits of what a small automaker could do it was an impressive undertaking. Not to mention the stainless steel construction which to this day has not been widely repeated by any carmaker.

DeLorean's aren't my thing but I understand why people love them. If you like automotive history read the book "On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors" that was written indirectly by DeLorean. A good read.

The engine is a Peugeot-Renault-Volvo (PRV) 2.85 litre V6 which was designed and built under special contract with the DMC Company. These PRV engines were a development of the 2.7 litre V6 in the Renault 30, and were built in the PRV Factory in Douvrin, Northern France. The gearbox, also designed by PRV, was built at the Renault facility near Caen in Normandy. The engines and gearboxes were shipped weekly by sea from the PRV Factories to the DMC Factory.

This driveline sucked donkey balls.....

If they can make a new DeLorean that looks like the one ones, I'm holding out for the new BMW 2002tii or 3.0CS.

What was wrong with the Renault driveline? It was used succesfully by Alpine in the A310 thru A610 and turbocharged in the Venturi, all highly respected sports cars, in fact 911 competitors
The DeLorean was initially a bad design, needing Colin Chapman's intervention to make it even driveable. And the stainless steel skin on a plastic shell! Why on earth use a lightweight body and then cover in heavy metal?
