Can't imagine why.......
Specifically, the early Model 3 cars were optioned out. If you wanted it, you had to pay for the car plus the options which raised the price by 30-50% or so, above base.

To be honest, we should not discuss if cars can burn or not. We should discuss awareness while driving. Reading FB while driving is dangerous, and the more dangerous if the car is autonomous driving IMHO.

I'm sure when people went from travelling by horses to a car it was the end of the world and people were worried they were going to die in a fire ball of flammable fuel

Probably had some fires back then but the car was a better means of day to day transportation, no question.

I get your point.

I'm pretty sure an actuarial table would put the value of the ugly old lady at significantly less than the 16 year old. They do put relative values on people's lives.

Several years ago my good friend's daughter was killed in a crosswalk by a driver who wasn't paying attention. My friend sued him, but dropped the suit in disgust when his lawyer said, "Too bad it wasn't her brother. Boys are worth a lot more in court than girls."
That may have changed some as women's wages and career opportunities have improve in the past 40 years, but still ....

In the Concorde's case, the upgrades to the gas tank addressed part of that defect, rupture from overpressure when the tire debris impacted but still, the proximity to a source of ignition was the big unsolvable issue. In the current crop of electric cars, given the fuel tank is distributed "everywhere", any impact is that more likely to reach it and be a source of ignition. The design for range is at the expense of safety, interesting parallels here between the two.

It wasn't metal that punctured the Tank. It was rubber from the tire. And it happened a bunch of times between 1979 and 2001.
