Rent vs. Own - Check Out Your Neighborhood
Did you know that the concentration of renters in a neighborhood can impact property values? Generally, a low concentration of renters and a higher percentage of owners is best for rising values.

That is not very surprising. Renters rarely take care of a property as well as owners. Certainly not a hard fast rule, but the rent houses are easy to spot in most neighborhoods.

Mine came up 34% renters and 50% owners. What's the other 16%?
Never mind. I see the details tab now and it says 16% vacant. There are a fair number of signs about the neighborhood.

That's something you'd think was common knowledge.
I don't disagree that an owned property is better maintained, I think the word should really be "improved", than a rented one but I don't believe it really has anything to do with a lack of desire on renters parts to live in a nicer place. I think it has more to do with a reluctance to invest resources in something that one does not own. It may just be that improving a property with no return on the investment is something most people simply are not interested in doing. And some landlords are not thrilled with renters doing that either. My development comes up as 13% rented, 84% owned.

Heh. It had to make my neighborhood 16 square miles.... 21% rent.
I guess it is good when the only new construction is the deer stands going up in teh 1200 acres across the road from me ![]() |

entertaining the idea

61% owners, 34% renters, and 4% vacant.
That doesn't seem to bad. I checked my friend's house closer to Center City. The median age of homes is 517 years. ![]()

14% rental 79% owner.
Got a funny feeling that the realtor in the link might be gathering addresses to bulk mail stuff to, so I put in an address just up the street!

My neighborhood is real small. The one rental I know of does a good job of keeping the place looking nice.
At our old house our neighbor that owned the place and was pure white trash. He finally lost the house to lack of paying the bills. Some investor bought the place from the bank and fixed it up, the former owner did not maintain anything and it was trashed. He rented it to a black family that was great. We preferred them by far over the previous owner. That neighborhood was becoming more and more rentals and it started to show. We moved because the traffic got to be crazy busy.

In fact I do that anytime a site asks for an address before I can get to the info I want. I used to do the same thing at work. In the days before gmail and free disposable accounts when there was a product or service I needed to evaluate that required an email address and confirmation I'd use the help desk managers email address. This guy never missed a meal so I'd wait till just before lunch before submitting then run over to the his PC, reply, then delete the email.

Think this thread is a big DUH...But I looked anyway, 8% rent 89% own. BTW...I used the address of a neighbor who is a PITA. I would never type my address into any website. ...kidding. There is an empty lot a few hundred yards down.

I wonder the accuracy of this tool. I plugged in my current address (apartments) and it came back 78% renters, 22% owners.

Doesn't seem to work up here. When I bought this house 30 years ago there was one rental house on the street. Now it's about 50%. Time to move.

Our village is 1.915 Sq Mi., 86% owned, 10% rented and 4% vacant. Here's our part of the 10%, closest to the camera is the office we rent to our business, and the right side is residential and rented to tenants. It used to be the post office and general store, and the owner's quarters.

Did you ever stop to think that this website is simply harvesting your address?
Or wonder why the realtor's phone number and email are obviously fake?

My neighborhood is 93% owner occupied, 7% tenant occupied, 3% non residential (there's some churches, schools, retail). I didn't get that from the shady site.

My hood is 100% owned, with one woman renting out half her house to "housemates." With the exception of my neighbor who was asking stupid money for his dump, nothing stays on the market for more than 3 months here. That survey includes the town near where I live, which makes it useless. I'm 4 miles away, in a different school district, different political environment, and different township If my lot was in town it would have 6 houses on it.
