Walk into any manila pool room, lay $100 on the rail of a table, and you'll make contacts.

Seriously, the Porsche collector there is named Gabby Valdez. If you could find him, I'm sure he'd be cordial.

BTW, I was only semi joking about pool. Pool seems to be the national game of the Philippines. Many of the planet's best pool players are from there. I recently watched a 17 year old girl beat the women's pool great Allison Fisher in 10 ball at the Chinook Winds open here in Oregon. Her name is Chezka Centeno...and she is absolutely deadly with her cue skill. The match is on youtube, easily found with a search.

Pool doesn't require you to be big, tall, or muscular. And most Filipinos are none of those. That being said I suck at pool. Never did take it up on a regular basis even though there was a hall close by.

When I was 8 the neighbors across the street introduced me to pool. Beautiful 4x8 slate table. I could just see over the top . I loved it . there was a Donald duck or one of them explaining geometry and talking about angles. I remember them using pool as an example and it was the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of refraction. That cartoon is what I used when trying to first hit the ball in the right spot. I knocked on those poor neighbors doors for years and I would stay down there quietly playing for hours on end. I don't think they had the heart to tell me to go home. I played all the time till later in life. In my time I could run and hold table for hours. That's how I drank for free. A good pool player can tell when he's on. You just look and you can see everything. Every shot. Any pool player will also tell you that with pool and bars comes fighting and I did a lot of that back then too. lol.

Pool is a game that requires countless hours to get really good at. It's also a game you either enjoy or not. I'll never be a really good pool player, but I enjoy knocking balls around.

That said, Fillipinos definitely have there sports heroes...ever heard of a boxer named Manny? Mayweather says he doesn't want to fight him again...probably because Manny packs one hell of a punch for a little guy.

Very true...they are very good at cueball control, figuring %ages, and knowing when to play safe, Hold on, I'll find a youtube video of 17 year old Chezka playing many times womens Champion Allson Fisher... it's a short race to 5 in 10 ball. Allison tried to rely on her safety skills. Didn't work. My honorary nephew was ringside, so to speak...he told me that at one point, Allison turned to her partner and said "Trouble". My nephew has a BCAPL ranking of Grand Master...about as high as you can go and still be labeled an amateur. I asked how he'd do vs. this girl..."She'd beat my brains out."

Here it is...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhEZsZr5nSw

Actually, they played 2 matches...here's the earlier one where Chezka sent Allison to the loser's side in this double elimination tournament.

You go into a game thinking that if you miss you will not get another shot.

There is however what we called the art of the leave.

Ok, We have decided on residence in the area between Kidapawan City and Davao City instead of Manila.
So to everyone who PM'ed and emailed and on here that is where the focus will be.
When the time comes it would be nice to have a friend pick me up at the airport before I get kidnapped.
