Advice on the Macan

My wife is drooling on the new Macan. They are decent looking cars.

We test drove a few of them and we brought one home and it is in the garage for an extended look see. It is black and it will not the the one we buy. She wants a white one.

It will be a base model have the Premium Plus option and Apple connect. It does have the PDK transmission.

The dealer is pretty much stuck on full sticker price. We really have not pressed that at all as yet. It will come in around the mid 50s. How much is should they take off of that is we order the car she wants? We can go to a dealer in Tulsa that is 100 miles away or the dealer in Dallas at 215 miles. Park Place is a big dealer for sure.

And if any of you are looking for a pristine 2008 Infinity G35x with just 35,000 miles in near new condition let me know. We will not trade that in at the dealer. I will sell it outright.

Any thoughts?

Just bought a Cayenne a couple weeks ago. Dealer said Macans were hard to keep in stock. I worked the salesman hard and the only thing I got was sticker price and a free set of all weather mats.

Macan is very popular here in NYC and in FL. Good looking car I am not surprised they are getting sticker.

Get a used one. Seen some awesome deals on Carmax. For whatever reason they depreciate like a stone- even though they're an amazing car/suv. The Macan is the ONLY Porsche that is selling these days- every other model is down. Used turbos for low 70's is a bargain IMO:

We aren't there yet, but I think our next car will be a Cayenne, but used. I got my Boxster at Park Place. Seemed like a good dealer.

There aren't many CPO base-model Macans around, but they are out there. That said, you could be in an S model CPO car for under $50k.

If you are willing to expand your search radius, you might check out the factory portal for nationwide pre-owned/CPO dealer inventory:
Porsche Pre-Owned Locator

Additional links: http://www.porsche.com/usa/approvedused http://locator.porsche.com/ipl-customer/ipl/search/search.ipl?cid=2

Also, FYI, there is a new white base-model at the dealer here is Scottsdale (listed @ $51,265).

My friend had a diesel Cayenne leased and they made him give it back, wouldn't let him buy it even.
He leased a new Macan and likes it, got the most power, whatever, everything. He says the mileage isn't what he likes, but then he had the diesel before.

he Macan had poor reviews on Consumer Reports for 2016. Satisfaction was high but so were various repairs. All covered under warranty but still not a good thing. Maybe the bugs are worked out?

As a reference point, this one is local to me. It's a 2015 turbo CPO for $64,000. I know the dealership and know they'll come way down from their asking price.

My wife is happy with the 252 hp of the base model. It is going to be her car.

Looked at the Macan a few weeks ago before buying a BMW. Just could not get over the very arrogant sales folks at the dealer (Langley BC) and the massive premium over, for example, an Audi Q5. The base Macan was just a 4 cylinder simple small SUV. Not impressed.

If we talking about the turbo, different story....but loaded well over $100K here in Canada.

Not sure what's with (Porsche) car sales folks. Came across as a well dressed appliance sales person. My 16 yr old kid (big Porsche nut) suggested to bring the 930 and quiz them on their product/brand knowledge.

Glen,

In the past, the local service department gave preferential treatment to owners of cars purchased there. And the dealership charged more for their cars to justify it. Recently talked to the new manager about that issue and how it was common knowledge that buying at Park Place in Dallas would save enough to make it well worth the trip and the second class service treatment. He told me he was being more competitive to sell more cars and keep people local. Interested to see what they are asking now compared to the Tulsa and Dallas dealerships to see if he is being up front or just blowing smoke and hoping you don't do comparison shopping.

Do you not yet have CarWow in the US? We just tell them the exact spec new car we want and they find the best price for(in actual fact often the local dealer will match the price once confronted. Worked for my daughter's Mercedes CLA)

I am a 39 year member of USAA. They have a car buying service that predicts a $1,300 savings. They also offer a .99% loan. I am not a fan of car loans but that is almost free loan money. Our credit union pays us more that .99% for the money to sit in a checking account.

They also offer an extended warranty program. Again I am not a fan of those but for a new Porsche it might be a good thing. I will have a lot of learning to do. The dealer wants $240 just for an oil change! There is a big panel to remove and then the filter and drain plug are right there.

I am so behind. I have heard of the Macan but since I spend 99% of my time in either rural Maryland or even more rural North Carolina, I've never seen one or done any reading about them.

Road and Track loves the thing: Porsche Macan Reviews - Porsche Macan Price, Photos, and Specs - Car and Driver

The Macan looks the business, that's for sure. I am sure Mrs. GH will enjoy it!

Best.

It seems like there are many Macans in this part of the world sitting at the dealers' lots.
Not a used one for sale within 200 miles except at a dealership. I have only seen a couple on the road so far. I think base is a good choice. I don't know how responsive P dealers are in competitive pricing between stealerships. No harm in trying.....

They are fairly common in these parts. The dealer had over a dozen of them, but most were already sold, and awaiting delivery.

The base 2.0 engine with the 7 speed PDF transmission has a 0 to 60 of a little over 6 seconds so it is no slouch and will merge onto a highway with ease. The PDK is fun to drive. I punched it up to 50 MPH and then let off the throttle and the revs stay up expecting a hard turn and more throttle. It soon up-shifted. Of course the PDK shifts in a blink of the eye. Since it is not a torque converter system the towing capacity is real low, like 2,000 lbs. If I need to tow a trailer I have my trusty El Camino.

I was pretty close to buying the hotrod version (I really wanted a turbo car after having a Turbo Cayenne)...but decided I didn't want a large car payment so close to retirement...and didn't have quite enough cash on hand that was not earmarked for something else. They are a very nice, sporty wagon. The biggest problem that I have always had with my Cayenne is that I prefer a smaller car and the Macan seems like a smaller, lighter version (still not small enough to suit me). The price, like all new Porsches seems a little steep and it also does not replace my Cayenne that will tow 7500lbs..so I would have to keep both. Great niche car...drives almost like a two-seater.

Personally, I would look for a gently-owned used model and avoid the instant depreciation upon driving it off the lot.
