My '56 Chevy truck / Rat Rod build fits this category as well. I wanted the inside to look GM factory new while giving it an updated feel. The inside metal on these things originally was very rough with layered panels not finished off at all. Added to that at some point it looked like two kids got inside with a sledge hammer and a shotgun, closed the doors and went to town.

Definitely a lot of time to get the inside metal straitened, repaired back to at least close to what it was like and a whole lot more time in smoothing the overlapping panels and joints to appear seamless.

The two-tone colors are exact original, but have been cleared. GM had a satin finish interior colors in their trucks because they were designed and marketed as work vehicles.

Further on this build the body is channeled 4" over the frame and the engine set back so the firewall and floor dimensions are radically different than original. Which requires custom / sewn carpet to fit. What you're looking at is called 'Daytona Weave'
which looks more like fine embroidery than actual carpet. GM put this style carpet in the 50's Cadillac's and Corvettes only.

I ordered it by the yard, made patterns, transferred that to the carpet and cut. Then I had my upholstery guy do a French stitch where it needed to be seamed and then bound the edges with the color tan as the rest of the parts.

I just installed the carpet this past weekend, still have lots left to do. I do all my own work, everything but for a few things I farm out.

That's a great-looking truck. Got any photos of the exterior?

And didn't trucks of that period originally come with the inside sheet metal satin-finished in a different color than the exterior color?

Yes the interiors were slightly contrasting color to the outside and as said above satin finish. Here's a shot of the outside a while back.

I haven't had tome to read through all the pages yet but will later tonight when I am at my best.

I don't care too much about the correct nuts and bolts or the wax and shine guys. Ii didn't not grow up in the 60 muscle car era, by the time I started driving in the mid 80s, there were a whole lot of fuel saving 4bangers running around. It was just not fashionable to drive the big old Delta 88 around town anymore. Maybe I don't have the love for those heavy American irons. I do love older trucks so...

I committed a sinful thing some time ago and its finally finished. I hacked up a long hood a little bit. Will get you some pics later. She was driven home a week ago. Its need a shake down drive. Now that all the neighbors are home, Idon't want to upset them because the car's loud (straight pipe, Muhahahahaha) and I don't want to piss anyone off because they are all cooped up at home enjoy the time with their families. Oh yeah, most of them are planet saving, grass eating, behind the scene Hollyweird type.

Beautiful car, look.

What are the lines on the passenger side, oil lines? They look really big.

Guess you can call it a rustomod. Took a stock 71 914 and added 75 911 front suspension. Converted from 4 to 5 lug and added 73 911S front calipers and a larger master cylinder. Added a carbed 83 911SC 3.0 and reinforced the chassis. Have a front oil cooler and many genuine 914-6 parts. The seats were updated, the headlights converted to H4s with 110/90 bulbs. LED instrument lighting and a full Elephant Racing polybronze suspension. Has a Rennshifter, Fuchs 6s and 7s and dozens of small improvements.

The car is light, with great torque and has supernatural cornering ability. Fortunately it is done, so it is no longer sucking money. Now just routine maintenance.

Really enjoy driving it on sunny days and I can’t park it anywhere without being approached by someone who owned one, still owns one, wants to own one or has a friend or family member with one. The great thing about it is that 914 owners are seen as approachable and not Porsche snobs. It’s a real shame when I have to tell them to get the f away and piss off.
