modified C5 Z06

I'm foolishly considering looking at this car. It has a stand alone engine management computer that does not communicate with the systems computer of the car (hence the warning messages in the video). It is heavily modified but the owner states that it works well and does not (yet) suffer from the shifting issues common to these cars. He is asking about $28K. Any thoughts?

Paul's bullet Mustang thread sent me down the BaT rabbit hole and ended up looking at some 2004 Vettes.

The ones I looked at seem like a good deal for a fun weekend cruiser for me ($20-25K)

That is a LOT of money for a C5 Z06. Sounds like somebody thinks they should be getting 100% of their mod money back. If you want a track car, seems like a higher mileage example for $15k would be a better starting point. $28k is also very close to high mileage C6 Z06 money. I would also have some concerns about the standalone EFI, why? You are now totally reliant on the quality of that install and very much on your own if issues develop. People make crazy HP on the factory EFI with a tune. Most of those systems require occasional tweaking, is that what you are looking for?

nah. Nuts street car. Legal and Runs on pump gas. Needs some thought to get much of the interior back into it. Would also want to put A/C compressor back in so the dry sump pump would need a new home eventually. I'm sure there's a solution for it but even though the car has a lot of great modifications, I don't know how far down the rabbit hole it could take me.

Seems like the wrong choice for a street car. You can get an absolutely immaculate C5 Z06 for the same money.

it is a lot of $$ but ask and sell are often markedly different as you well know. The mods on the car (fully built engine, mini tubs, coilovers, Fikses, roll cage) are a lot of money all by themselves.

True, but it also has no AC and no interior. There's a bunch of tastefully modified Z06s out there for less money. Typically you lose your ass on mods, I don't think this seller has figured that out yet. And frankly there's a lot of that stuff that might make for a crappy street car.

I agree any seller is totally unrealistic to get the cost of mods back. I've spent the last year heavily modifying my Lotus for track use. If I sold it today I think I'd maybe get an extra $2K for over $15K in parts (not labor) in mods.

Anyone can drop in a 11-12k lsx crate engine and get that hp, but also have a warranty. Tig'ed bung on the fuel rail with the fast intake kinda has me turned off. I bet it runs lean at high rpm.

As mentioned the efi should have been managed with stock computer. The builder should have known about hp tuners...

If that's set up for some R rated tires take it to the track.
you had me at dry sump.
If it is mono ball suspension? nice but not for long with a street driver.
They make awesome track cars with the nanny off.
On track you might find, Crude nanny in the C5, even with coolers oil everywhere wont disapate heat well.
With R rated tires fries my wheel bearings and replaced with SKF bearings, dopes it have those too?

Price a little high you can find track prepped with patina C5s around $25k and less?
Street car you must drive a c6Z they are incredible.
No dry sump track at you own risk.

Dry sump mod alone can be cost $5k.

Stock C5 with 70k miles can be had for under $10k.
Great low mileage old man cars like mine out there too.

I see the mods as a plus. Do wish the A/C would have survived but the dry sump pump is now in the compressor spot. Not sure where else it could be placed but suspect the LS7 swapped cars use the long crank snout mounted pumps to preserve A/C. I think these cars are a lot of performance for the $$ (especially relative to $$ required for a G50 911) but this car does not really appear to have lead much of an easy life.

I paid $25,550 (USD) for my 07 Z06 in May 2015. It's stock with 60,000 (when purchased).
I would pass on that one.
