Semi-retired and still working!

That photo was taken while on the job.

When I was a 16 year old gas jockey, this was the view from my ‘office’...

I think my ‘office’ views when I was commercial fishing during summers at the same age were probably better. I saw every sunrise and every sunset. Lots of stars. One night in particular running from a salmon opening at the Pender Bluffs (Pender Islands), the aurora borealis were absolutely amazing. The light show and the phosphorescence in the water were absolutely incredible that night. It’s a night I’m lucky I got to experience and one I hope I never forget.

On the descent into Anchorage. The most brilliant aurora I have ever seen. Dancing pink and green ribbons.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1672297957.jpg

Having worked in the photo industry all my life, several hours every single work day this was my view. 100% darkness. When processing film there is no such thing as a "safelight" and it has to be total 100% inky black darkness. I worked by feel alone.

Now on occasion this is my office view. Or more accurately, my laptop as it operates the camera system.

^double Garmin1000 MFD's. Nice! Some pilots use an iPad duct taped to the dash.
There's never enough room for screens.

Very cool! What kind of power levels do you work with?

Thread voyeur here, I can’t have cameras, phones, etc in my office.

MaxVon 05-12-2023 03:57 PM

Hi Paul,

That unit is 1500W. I test and calibrate up to 4000kW which are water cooled.

astrochex 05-12-2023 04:05 PM

Wow, you are not messing around. Thats impressive.

MaxVon 05-12-2023 04:11 PM

Yes, very interesting work. Between the optics side and the electronics side, it can be fun to diagnose and work with. I've been fortunate enough to work with some great engineers. I'm just a low-level technician.
