**FaceBook Death Notices - WTF is wrong with people?**

1st - No need for Condolences, that's not what this is about. I was so mad about this, it's taken over a month to make a rational comment:

1) My mother had dementia for several years and passed away recently at age 87. I knew her time was soon, but when ahead with my Tahita trip. I told all I wasn't taking my phone, as I had no service out of country. Long store short, she passed during my trip over. There is very limited internet in Tahati and on cruise ships. Before I could notify my daughter and other close Family members, they had already seen it on Facebook:

2) Related topic - For over 20 years I was on the Executive board of a large Motorcycle club that had over 20,0000 members in 26 countries.....I administered an account with over $200,000 we could use to help accident victims, even if they passed. I can't tell you haw many crashes and even deaths I learned of on Facebook.....

I have a bunch of Trailer Trash Nephews and Nieces.....Anyone blame me for being ticked? (And I'm Sick....That's all.

my wife learned of her grandmother's death on fb........
it's quite ridiculous.....but unfortunately a sign of the times......
the only way we could ever get back to the good Ole days would be to eliminate the Internet entirely......

It customary to wait until you know the next of kin has been notified. But i don't know how long people should wait for that to happen. You would think within a couple of days.

The ability to instantly communicate has all but eliminated any boundaries for many, along with any sense of propriety or etiquette. There is even a race to see who can post such bad news first, for whatever bizarre reason. I just don't get it.

Sorry to hear about your mom, Bob. Even if we see it coming, losing a mom seems particularly hard. I lost mine about a year and a half ago; she just turned 84.

Hang in there buddy, and don't let the low brows get to you. We're all kinda stuck with our own fun little set...

FB is for a certain segment of people who thrive on attention.

In *some* situations it serves a purpose to help connect with old friends.

Otherwise it's pretty much a drama show.

Sorry about your Mom, Bob but sounds like she's in a better place now.

I would never broadcast someone's death on Faceplant. It just seems wrong, insensitive and disrespectful of the person that passed.
... someone should write a book about Faceplant etiquette.

I'm constantly surprised by the crap people share with no regard for someones privacy.
And then you have the so called adults behaving like high school children with their silly antics and disputes.

FWIW. You have my condolences for how this turned out & may your mother RIP.

While I can understand your frustration at etiquette not being followed, our family is spread all over the country(world at times), and we uses FB as an 'announcements' platform. Yes, even for family deaths.

I agree. It really is uncouth. I know someone whose husband died unexpectly and the wife absolutely relished the attention. Weirdo!

On the other hand, you were out of communication for what sounds like it was several days. Was there a way to get a message to you at all? I can see relatives thinking that you had given tacit permission to post on Facebook considering it was obvious that it was close to the end, that you were going on a long-planned vacation where there would be little contact, and that you aren't taking your phone. I can see someone thinking that telling people you weren't taking your phone under the circumstances was you giving them permission to make the announcement as they saw fit if your mom passed away while you were gone.

Do remember to be generous in your feelings toward those who made the announcement. It was not their mother but they lost a loved one too. Not everyone reacts well under the stress of the loss of a loved one.
