Just how big was Wilt Chamberlin?
Here's a pic of him with his home table. Yes, that's a full sized 9' table. Bet Wilt didn't use a bridge much.

Wilt was one of the greats but can he do all those fancy moves on a pair of ice skates?

Wikipedia has Wilt:
Listed height 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) Listed weight 275 lb (125 kg) Interesting that they use the word "Listed". Sounds like they may be not sure if the numbers were fudged.

In Madam Toussaud's wax museum in Vegas is (or was) a life-size Shaquille O'Neil. My spread-out hand from the tip of my thumb to the tip of my baby finger could fit on his palm.
I should run for president. |

Far as I know, Wilt still holds the record for most points scored in a game.

I played a lot of pick-up basketball in college and the Navy. I am 6'4" and could play quintessential Catholic School basketball...meaning I could make myself useful.
Most people have no idea how big and fast major college and pro basketball players really are. I played with David Robinson, Alex English, Lester Conner and dozens and dozens of Division 1 players over the years. Different orbit athletically and physically.

When Charro was an Islander he played with the 6-6 Eric Cairns.
Their line was nicknamed The Twin Towers. Used to hang at this bar that Gerry Cooney frequented. We would play that shuffleboard bowling game. He would cheat because he could reach half way down the lane before letting the puck go. I called him on it once, he gave me a look, I dropped it. Was at a movie one night, had to go to the bathroom, as I'm walking down the hall from the theater to the lobby it goes dark, I get to the end and Mark Gastineau is standing in the door, blocked all the light.

In the late 90's my CEO lived in Bel Aire next door (if you can call 2 acre BH estates "next door") to Wilt. They shared a gated driveway. Shortly after he died the house went on the market. We met the realtor and she let us walk through the house. His master bathroom counters were custom made. I don't know exactly how high they were, but I'm 6' even and they came to my chest. It was like some kind of sight gag.

Wilt was sensitive about his height so he only allowed himself to be listed as 7' 1" or aometunes 7' 1 and 1/16". No one ever really knew how tall he was but they used various stratagems to view him against known objects and guess his height. He was way talller than 7' 1".
He custom built his house to be scale size to him. All the counter tops, fixtures, cabinery, doors, etc. were sized proportionately to him. I hope his pool room wasn't really stone. It looks like a dungeon.

I remember seeing this pic of him in a newspaper or somewhere similar in 1954 or 1955. The text was predicting a future in professional basketball for him. I thought it was a pretty amazing pic.

I recall reading Wilt 's height as 7 ft 3 inches, but that was in modern street shoes.
More stats here (I can't vouch for their accuracy): Young Wilt Chamberlain would DESTROY today’s NBA |
