QuickBooks
is the buggiest, piece of junk software I've ever used. I wish I could sue them for lost time due to their crap product.

It used to be lean and mean.
I bet it's bloated with pointless bells and whistles now. Just like MS office.

I use Enterprise Edition 14; I actually think it's pretty robust.

My wife uses it to manage her parents' business (she's an accountant) and used it for me when I had my dealership. She has no issues, I found it to be very counterintuitive and with a very poor user interface. Very powerful software with lots of tools, but very unfriendly.

It is a pain to use sometimes. We use it here and all we do is make invoices and deposit the checks. It keeps track of the what service or product was sold and to whom. It prints out nice reports that we hand to the CPA and he is happy.
It is hundred magnitude better software that iTunes. iTunes still is my number one worst software of all time. It makes DOS 1.1 look easy to use.

I'm using Pro 2015. Just a few issues:
I have 2 screens open, say the Home screen and the Reconciliation screen. I can look down at my bank statement, nothing touching the mouse or keyboard, when I look back up, the screens have disappeared. Gone. I have a large grey screen open. I try to get them back by cascading them. Doesn’t work. I have to restart. I import qbo files from my bank. The system can double enter items via a bug that when you click Quick Add in the dropdown box, sometimes you get a pop-up that says the "txn" is not found, the item won’t be added. What’s the fix? Restart QB. Then it works for about 5 more additions. But it actually does add in the original entry that it said it didn’t. So when you go to reconcile, it has a ton of double entries. What makes that so much fun is when you double click on one of them to open another screen to delete the transaction, it (unbeknownst to me) opens that screen such that the very left edge of the new screen is just at the very right edge of the main screen so you don't see it. It takes 3 times as long to find those transactions and delete them manually. At least now I will look for the leading edge and drag it over. In the bank feeds screen, I can start to enter the Payee, say TechArt, so I hit T then E but it has already entered Target and the rows of entries automatically scrolls up and your cursor is gone. There is actually a lot more but I’ll stop there. Software is completely up to date. What should take 15 minutes to enter and reconcile a month takes an hour. So frustrating. I've designed and built enterprise level applications for Federated Department Stores, major NY law firms and actuarial firms, and there would always be bugs to fix, but nothing like this. I can only imagine US engineers wrote the base application and then pushed it over to India for continued development.

The newest update requiring regular password change is super annoying. There is no ability to turn off the password update which is a real pain when you are using multi-user like me where my business partner, one employee, our bookkeeper and our accountant log-in regularly to our books...I get "whats the new password?" emails all the time.

I use QuickBooks Pro 2012 and have never bothered to update for the very reasons you complain about. They just keep loading it with bloatware.

Yea, I really have the new password thing. We do NOT store one but of credit card info in our QuickBooks except the last 4 digits of the card just to let the customer know what card they used. We run all CC purchased through the card reader. Yet we have to have the complex passwords and change them. That is the worst feature on the program.
Shaun, we have zero crashes or strange issues like you are having. We are Running Windows 10 professional on all three of the computers that use QuickBooks and we are on the 2016 version.

My 2012 version runs well too. Maybe it is your anti virus program dicking around with it. When you called Quicken, what did Mumbai have to suggest?
Oh and BTW, you want to talk about Crashy McCrashington software, try go take some medical records software for a spin.

We have 5 licenses and use it all day long with no exceptions. All have a bit of it running on the server.
And that PW things sounds super frustrating!

Been using QB in my business since 1994.
Early versions of QB were clean and simple with no bs. We currently run 2012 and though it has a bunch of useless popup screens it gets the job done without any quirks or issues.

I am looking at retirement in a couple years and if I get into some small home base business (or maybe go to clown school and learn to make balloon animals) if that were to happen what kind of accounting software would you recommend other than QB.
More than likely I will end up a greeter at Home Depot but just in case. ![]()
