Ammo prices - Will they ever come down again?

I looked the other day and the price of .22LR is STILL on the order of $0.08 to $0.10 per round. I'm not expecting the days of 550 rounds for $7. But ten cents each seems like highway robbery.

Last week I found an old 550 round milk carton of .22s that said $5.99 on it.

I cried a little.

I have a range of them from $7 to about $15. I would like to start rotating the older stuff, but the prices are still up there. If it was $25/500, I'd consider it.

I'm surprised new manufacturers aren't popping up. I realize there's liability to consider but the rough manufacturing margins look pretty damn good. I'm also surprised there hasn't been (to my admittedly limited knowledge) a widespread alternative to brass introduced. Seems a synthetic casing would be feasible by now but I'm probably missing something.

i just bought my BIL a browning BuckMark. in order for him to have something to open for Christmas, i bought a box of ammo. i got reamed at $10 for 100. it felt like a reaming.

the Actual handgun will need to go thru the proper channels.. he needs to take a test, wait ten days..then get it. after i transfer it to him at the store. WHAT A PIA!!

Aguila has been making inroads to the us market. Federal, Olin, Remington, etc. have all expanded aggressively the past few years.

I fully expect to be able to start buying some large stashes at gun shows in about two years.

So what you're saying is that we're about to make ammo prices great again?

Saw plenty at about 6 cents/round at the show in orlando a few weeks ago. Bass Pro has Automatch at 6c/rnd. Local to me places have CCI SV for 8c/r. All fairly reasonable in my book.

The trick for Bass Pro is to do the (small) daily limit, but ship to store (no charge for that). Then do your daily limit several days in a row, and go in once and pick it up.

I'm sitting on $325 of BP gift cards. They are VERY proud of their spoons and most everything else, but you can catch an occasional deal. Dunno if I wanna hold on to them for a while hoping for a special sale, or if I should try selling them.

I've started buying online at SGAmmo, way cheaper than the local stores and the shipping is surprisingly cheap. Locally we have Cabelas, Gander Mountain, Academy, Dicks, and a bunch of small gun stores, I find Gander to have the best prices and by far the biggest selection. I suspect in our new post-election world that you will see prices coming down, these companies have been cranking out high volumes for 8+ years and it has to get sold. At that point it becomes simple supply and demand.

I think CDNN has a sale like this going on today. Gotta subscribe to the email alerts from CDNN, Slick Guns, AIM Surplus and then keep an eye on Wiki Arms. Cabela's has deals and coupons once in a while too.
