How often do you paint ?

We live in a smallish ranch house . We heat with wood and and oil furnace. I'm a mechanic ( dirty hands ,and clothes ) and ,we also have a 10 year old with grungy little hands that are on everythig
Our main living areas seem to get dingy in about 2-3 seasons . The bedrooms in the rear of the house fair a little bit better and we do them about every 5 years.
Seems as if I paint non stop I did 3 rooms this winter already, and looking around, I am not done yet .

I did everything around 12 to 15 years ago. I'm going through the house again this year.

It would seem better filtration for the heating plants would be a better and cheaper, in the long run, solution.

Yes, air filtration is a great help. Our interior paint is eight years old and hasn't been touched. It looks like the day I put it down on the surfaces. There are a couple of places I occasionally wipe down certain areas like above some shower areas where lots of condensation occurs and maybe around the cook top area once in a while. If you are having to completely repaint whole rooms, either you need a paint brand that can be cleaned more easily and stand up to it or some way to better filter air from your heating system. Also unfiltered air from your heating system could present some negative health concerns.

We burn with wood exclusively, and usually have excess dust and cobwebs in corners after only a month or so. We have painted twice in 21 years, and is probably due again, but living on a 10 acre farm with building projects, maintenance, horses/chickens, and kids in sports, we are too busy to move furniture, wash walls, and paint on a regular basis.

Indoor painting only needed here about 10-15 years...gas heat. Outdoors for a couple buildings and fence...about every 5 years. I would much rather paint outside on a nice day....inside, not so much.
I have a wood decorative fence that is quite long. Friends and neighbors are always asking why not replace it with vinyl...no more painting? No thanks...I enjoy the satisfaction of the work.

washing the walls can help
and is far cheaper then paint

worse case clean walls allow paint to stick better/longer

I am a wall-washer too. Helps with the kid's hand prints that seem to be at their chest level throughout the hallway and any open wall!

What is killing me are the corners. House is from the 70s and the corners have a metal angle piece that is plastered and painted over. Any impact, the plaster goes flying and you are looking at galvanized metal. What can be done for that? I have been putting new plaster paint, but it is a yearly activity that's no fun. Currently I don't have matching paint left and dragging it out, as I know it will mean painting all the adjacent walls if I get buys on the corners ...

Frequency of paint is 5+ years here. Currently I am on 8 year old paint. Had tenants in the house for 5 years and didn't even have to paint when moving back, they were that clean. We have done much more damage in 1.5 years than the tenants did in 5.

every 10 years per my supreme commander's order because she's tired of the shade or gray or whatever color she can think of at that moment. My kids will be teenagers soon, hopefully they will be a little cleaner with the walls. I am not holding my breath.

I refinished my hardwood floor throughout the house right before the kids came along. My supreme commander decided to buy my little one a sand box because he really likes playing in it. So I come home and see this thing and nearly had a siht attack. Since them, I have had natural sand paper running through out my floors. The are dull as heck, so maybe one day, I will refinish again. Never ends. Sorry man, I had to let that one off my chest. Thankfully they haven't play with the sand box in a long time

I need to do some painting here. We bought the house 15 years ago and pained all of the rooms but the laundry room.

We recently moved my son downstairs to his own room. He had been using our loft area as his bedroom and the walls show it. I've got so many dings and dents in the drywall that I don't even WANT to start the repair process so we can paint.

I paint after new construction.....

Will wait another few years before painting the main floor again. My son will be 10 and maybe can keep his paws off the wall by then.

Painting is like starting a new exercise routine. Hard to get going but not so bad once you have started...

I enjoy painting. When I did the condo it took me three weeks to do. I did about 3-4 hours a day. I think it would be tough to do for a living though.

Where else can you spend about $300 on your house/condo and get such dramatic results?

I paint about every 5-6 years. I get a good quality paint such as Benjamin Moore and it lasts and looks good. When I go to somebody else's house I look to see how the edges have been painted. If it is well done it is a joy to look at.....
