Movies... took one for the team tonight

Mancheaster by the sea. I don't understand how this was even made into a movie. It was like watching people you don't care about and there problems. This is the Movie to bail on!! Yes why don't you go with your mom. No no no the kids don't want to go. 2 hours feel like 4. The worst dialogue I've ever heard. If you like ackward silence and what got you there this is the movie for you. Ok I'm done you've been warned. Ps my wife enjoyed it.

The movie critics have said a lot of good stuff about that one.
I generally don't go to the theater to watch dramas even the good ones.
However a good action movie, there is no better way to see it than on the big screen.

My rule is when the critics like it you shouldn't see it.

For sure. The critics will rave about some movie that was horrible and can a good movie. Their frame of reference is skewed somehow.

I will avoid that move on solid advice from a normal man and the fact it has great ratings by the critics.

It was a snooze fest!

It was one of the films in our Christmas movie marathon. I loved both Arrival and Nocturnal Animals, Fences was okay, but both Manchester By the Sea and Jackie were horrible. Even my wife went to bed 20 minutes into Jackie.

Working in the biz I end up in conversations with co-workers on many of the new films. They rave about the "allegories, undercurrents, hidden meanings, symbolisms, etc" in the newer films such as LalaLand, Fences, Manchester By The Sea, etc.

I just tell them I really enjoyed Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, very entertaining, funny, action packed and it's something you can watch with the kids. The looks on their faces are priceless.

Now that i think about it, it's a bit like Preston Sturges' "Sullivan's Travels" where he poked fun at the movie biz and Frank Capra. Leave out the BS, people just want to laugh and be entertained.

On a sideline we saw "Collateral beauty" the other night... started a little slow and thought I was going to hate it but got better fast then ended very well.

Rented "Hail Cesar" wife hated it... I thought it was... interesting but wouldn't recommend it.

Out of Africa was one of the worst for me. I HATED how they decided to make it look hot and made the entire file very YELLOW. My then girlfriend loved it in the theater. I tried hard to stay awake.

The English patient was another snoozer.

Oh God, this movie is now making the rounds of screeners (movies that get sent as DVDs to the voters for the Academy Awards). This is the movie my wife wants to borrow this weekend. If she makes me watch it with her, I may need to go buy a motorcycle or something as retaliation.

Tell her you want something the whole family can watch and rent Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, head her off at the pass...

Happy New Year Alarick!
