Smokin Pot

On an AIRPLANE! We were at the gate waiting to depart, and the plane at the next gate pushed back to taxi, sat awhile, and returned. Then they pushed the steps back up and everyone gets off. Some clown was toking up in his seat prior to take-off. Major chaos. That gate is closed. The plane had to be taken back for cleaning and a security check. The passengers are waiting at our gate for another plane, which may or may not make our flight late.

Major expense for the airline and inconvenience for 100 people or so.

All because some jackass doesn't know how to behave.

Not defending the actions of Jeff Spicoli, but "cleaning and security check" required the plane to be emptied and taken out of service? Seems like overreacting to me. Passengers with carry on food items make more of a mess than one idiot taking a couple hits of grass.

Wow! The nerve, I hope he took a bus or something, cant have wacky tobaccy fumes going up to the cockpit, I don't think the hard working flight crew would appreciate that.

Not over reaction at all.

I work on an industry where I can be subjected (and have been) to a random urine testing. I can be fired on the spot if my test comes up positive for any drugs (including pot). In fact, I have to carry a card on some of our customers' sites that shows I have been teased and found clean in the past 3 months or I may be subject to a spot test... it's been over 3 months since my last test, I wonder if Exxon is going to ask for some pee this weekend.

I am the sole breadwinner for my family and don't tolerate this kind of crap. If I was sitting next to this idiot and lost my job over his lack of consideration for others, I would be more than just mad or inconvenienced.

Pot STINKS even more than a cigarette. They need to bill that idiot passenger the entire cost of the delay and the cleaning, and ban him from flying. He can take the bus.

If he brought a dead animal on board in his carry on and then took it out and rubbed it around inside the airplane they would arrest him for vandalism. Not much different from what he did.

I suppose, there is a chance that someone could have been alergic to the smoke/vapors on that, or a future flight and held the airlines liable, so deboarding, and cleaning was their only legal option.

Never fails to amaze me about the stupidity, and audacity of some idiots.

This incident reminds of a bunch of bad human behaviors all rolled into one.

The thrill of getting caught might be what it comes down to.

Same reason for the mile high club, packing firearms into your luggage and as pointed out, smoking pot in public.

I trust this person will get all the new thrills they seek in prison.

What's the civil liability on this person if all the passengers got together with the airline and sued for lost time, lost business opportunity, lost schedules in general including check in times at hotels?

Yep, someone said in this thread they call it dope for a reason, could not be more right.

EDIT:

Using the Google search phrase "aircraft delay passenger smoking marijuana" there is page after page of incidents on record. Unfortunately not an isolated incident.

Could Second-Hand Pot Smoke Make You Fail a Marijuana Test?

I think you would be ok unless the entire plane was toking up.

Planes are generally filthy. Airlines cleaning crews leave behind french fries, burger king wrappers, peanuts, pretzels, drool, boogers, etc. But a little Marijuana vapor must be thoroughly swabbed and sterilized?

I'm not going to complain about someone using in general, but this is nuts. If he must have it NOW, what's wrong with an edibles? He's probably just earned himself a one way ticket to the no fly list. Moron.
