I still find it suspicious that New England seems to always perform MUCH better during the second half. It's almost like they know what is going to happen....

It's called coaching. Analyze what happened in the first half and then make adjustments.

The Patriots played really bad the first half - no yards, O line was miserable, too many dropped passes and bad routes. Second half they began to play like they did most of the season.

And Belichek planned to win that OT coin toss. Of course, Atlanta ran out of gas (or were massively outplayed) in Q4 and OT. Congrats to the Pats.

As a football fan more into the strategy side of things, I could not believe how predictable McDaniels was calling the game. When he put the game in Tom's hands finally in the 4th quarter (empty backfield), they took off... Falcons didn't have enough talent to cover that many weapons at a time.
Desperation drove McDaniels into proper play calling more than the Falcons choke, IMO. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk

I thought the Falcons were overly aggressive in the first half and you could see it in how much they slowed down in the second half. Their defense's energy was just used up.
You see it a lot in college football when the underdog comes out swinging and gets an early lead only to be hammered in the second half when the superior team's athleticism shows.

Two conference champs. One experienced in the big one....the other had a 2nd half WTF moment and folded like a cheap tent in a monsoon.

There's an old saying that a prevent defense can prevent you from winning. Not to take anything away from Brady and the Pats...an amazing performance.

Personally I think all of the Atlanta players were on the sideline getting sized for their rings. Someone took their foot off the floor when they needed to keep it firmly planted on the gas. They seemed to play a lot more conservative on O and D after that 3rd quarter TD. They were playing to win and it gave them a big lead. They then proceeded to play to not lose and it bit them in the ass.

Will / Should Brady retire now? Prollly could play a couple of more years but he doesn't need the money or the women or the rings or the records.
Go Cowboys. |

^^^Brady will not retire after this game. He is the kind of guy who wants to play forever.

That may be true, red, that he doesn't have a lot of years left in the NFL, but I was talking about Brady's desire to keep on playing. He has said himself he won't go quietly.
He made a comment today (and maybe it was just post-victory posturing) that he feels this is a game you stop playng when you're hurting all the time. When he was 25, he was hurting all the time. But now it's 14 years later, and that's not true. Certainly, you're right that a 39 year-old isn't going to be playing many more years in the NFL. But for Brady, when that eventuality arrives, it won't be for lack of desire.

And the SF Giants in game 6 of the 2002 World Series. They blew a 5-run lead in the 8th inning in what would have won it all.
