fudge fudge fudger fudge . Got a bad motor from the junkyard.

I guess it is the risk one takes. I will have to see if they take care of me, or let me out to dry.
I just came in to finish this thing up today , because I am leaving for a 10 day vacation on Friday.
Filled it up with fluids, twisted, the key, and it backfired once out the intake, and locked up tight .
I am 100 % sure it was already blown up. The oil filter housing was cracked, and in my head, I was wondering how long it ran without oil .
10 years ago, I would have thrown a hammer through the wall, and went and got drunk, but I guess, I am gonna suck it up, and go to one of my kids friends b day parties, and come back and work till I drop .
The good news, is that it was a through the top motor job, and only about 13 hours in so far, the bad news is, I got another 10 or so hours to go.
They always go way , way faster the second time, as one has already fought apart all the rusty fasteners, and knows exactly how everything goes .
A quick pic of the offending pos.

How is your weekend treating you ?

Well then, I guess replacing a crashed hard drive and reinstalling Window on an old Dell isn't such a bad gig after all!

However I am several months away from any kind of vacation so you have that going for you.

Heck I once purchased a brand new fresh rebuilt high HP motor for my son's Suzuki Sammy. Ran all of two minutes till the cam shaft broke in half. The great rebuilder put the head gasket on upside down, which blocked off oil flow to the head. Had to wait three weeks till he got that one back and shipped out another one.

Sorry to hear about this Fred. Is there some kind of warranty on it from the salvage yard?
Hoping you did not pay too much. If there is no compensation you could clue them in that you won't be coming back there?!

Do you feel that the salvage yard misrepresented its condition? Now I sound like a lawyer.
Enjoy your holiday. You deserve it.

Got a motor from a salvage yard back in the 80's. They ran it to prove it was okay before they would let me buy it. They had a bucket of water hooked up to the radiator lines.

The last yard engine I put in was years ago. Would tear one down to at least the short block if I had to do it today. Which is more labor than installing a new one so folks usually go that route.

Well, I dunno. They were a local wrecking yard that has been around for ever, but now, they merged with a few other yards, and are more of a conglomerate .
I will find out on Monday.
Nothing sucks worse than working your ass off , for that long of a period, and waiting to hear the sweet sounds of your labor pay off, only to hear , clunk , bang, click , click. no pay day, go straight to jail , do not pass go, do not collect your paycheck. Start over . I expect for them to at least supply me with another motor, and maybe knock some of the price of the purchase off. It was $1300.00. I bought the motor with the least miles that I could find in my area. I have been buying a lot of parts from them lately. I always pay my bill. If they leave me high and dry, I will just tell em good bye. LKQ, is always happy to sell me motors, and they warranty everything .

One of your cars or a customer car?

Sucks either way...

Most of the yards here come with a 15 day warranty just for that purpose...

I feel for you. Being the installer really sucks. Rebuilders and suppliers never have to face the customer. You are in the middle, and they know it. Hope it works out for you, and you are able to make the customer happy.
I have to hand it to you, if you can look at that pile of plastic and spaghetti and say, "Yeah, I can make this run," my hat is off to you.
I got out of the bizz when it was still carburetors and distributors.

Looks like a Ford Duratec. Takes a lot to kill those engines.

There is nothing in the automotive world, that lies more than that little yellow paint pen that marks the mileage on used engines, and transmissions

Two minutes of running, I suspect they will give you another. They won't want to lose your business, or have that story repeated to hundreds of customers.

Two weeks and you'd be on your own though. Look at it that way and you're lucky.
