Cutting the cord, best live tv options?

So we are just beginning to look into getting rid of cable and are learning more about what our options are for viewing TV (which is limited due to being consumed by our 2 and 4 year old's programming preferences).

We liked the idea of sling, but it does not seem to be compatible (or at least we can't find the app) with our 4K Samsung.

What are you guys doing?

Thanks, Jeremy

Roof top antenna.

No monthly payments.

Highest definition possible, and no compression.

Limited channel selection to say the least.

Yeah, forgot to mention, I was also going to get one of those "leaf" antennas.
Not sure my subdivision by-laws allow for roof-tops.

Following this with interest. We're cutting the cable ourselves soon. Wife is hung up on no access to live news, I'll miss out on live sports. We do not have strong OTA signals, and the channels we do pick up with an antenna are goofy. Sling TV is one option.

Everyone we know that has cut the cable is glad they did, and say they don't miss it.

Antenna for the major channels in HD. Fire stick for netflix and Prime shows. Netflix is $9.95, prime is paid for regardless by free shipping or whatever but has Grand Tour etc... Between those you cover a lot... You can add Motor trend ondemand sub for $5 a month and get all sorts of racing, DTM, sports car, etc... HBO and others have their own app too... Quite liveable now, unless like me you need F1. (rumor is F1 has the means now, liberty media might do an app subscription, in which case I'm cutting the cord too)

It depends upon who owns the roof. If you own it, go right ahead. However, if it is a common area, you may not be able to unless you get permission from the association.

My friends swear by their digital antenna but unfortunately there is a hill blocking signal to our house.

I presume you have internet? A lot of smart TV's and Blu-Ray players have built in ability to stream programming.

Amazon Firestick + Kodi + Exodus = all you really need.

There are other plugins for live network TV, USTVNow is one, and other more custom ones for specific events, etc.

We cut the cord beginning of last year. For 90% of what we wanted to do, Netflix and Hulu were fine. The only sport I care about is F1, so I torrented the races from Sky (and much better coverage!).

...But...recording and watching live events was a PITA. So we are back into the traditional DVR world and being able to flip on local news and/or watch live events/delayed events is much easier.

Didn't work for us. That's not to say a deeper dive into other options wouldn't have done it, but the price/pain ratio was not worth it.

go to TV Fool click "check your address for free tv" and enter your address. This will do an analysis of what channels you will be able to receive, the direction and distance to the transmitters and that will give you an idea of what type of antenna you will need to buy.

I am able to pull in some 60 channels from about 45 miles away. As someone mentioned it is the best quality image (better than satellite and cable) due to lack of compression. Oh, and I bought my antenna for $29 (it is pretty small) and placed it on the side of my house about 10 feet up. You can't really see it from anywhere on my street. Here is the antenna - about 12" X 10"L

The Amazon Fire TV will handle the 4k TV, I use Playstation Vue for my live TV. Similar to sling but better imho as far recording and interface.

I have a single Leaf antenna in the attic that I split 4 tvs. It works well and only when all four are working is there signal degradation.

I got my internet/cable bill down to 100 bucks per month from 230 with ATT.

If you are looking to use an outdoor antenna...the Stacker Antenna is the best I've seen.
HD Stacker TV Antenna - Best for weak signal
It's only about 4 ft long and compared to a 10 ft Winegard...it pulls in about double the HD stations in my area. Very happy with it.
