I'd go back to city hall from the city.
Make a copy of what was submitted for your records.

This one states misc various rights within Ca. https://firstamsandiegolinks.com/uploads/blankdocs/311.pdf

In CA, call into or walk up to the counter of the county assessors office and ask.

rnln, at least in Orange County, the Homeowners' Exemption applications aren't available on-line. The assessor sends an application to every new homeowner pre-filled with information that identifies the property and the sales transaction. You might need to go to your county assessor office to pick up the form.

It may work differently there but you definitely want to make sure an Affidavit of Transfer has been filed.
ie "This is my property now. I own it. Send all bills/letters to my new address listed on official record.".
Your realtor probably already did it, but ya never know..

My understanding (could be wrong) is that a Homestead Declaration/Exemption basically states:
"This is my home, and not commercial property, so tax it at a lower rate".
Around here, homestead can be 30mils and non-homestead 55mils for example.
That is significant when the bill arrives.

If you have several primary residences in different states, state laws will vary, especially with income tax.
Some big hollywood/sports people got into big trouble. MrT, Wesley Snipes, etc etc.
