if you were to sell an old Gold Rolex..how?

i have a gold president something. a day-date.

gold gold gold. i wore it for a week and it was ridiculous. way to blingy for me. it even has the "BARK" bracelet. it was my dad's. he was way more flashy than me. (more like my brother)

thinking of unloading it for a watch i would actually enjoy wearing.

just in the thinking stage now.

I would go to a watch forum, like Watchuseek, The Most Visited Watch Forum Site ... In The World. which is the PP of watch forums.

You could maybe try consignment or to a used watch guy, but my guess is you would get pennies on the dollar.

Hell, you might be able to sell it here. Find out what a consignment place would give you and what they are selling for used from a dealer, then price yours somewhere in the middle.

Or you could post it on Ferarri forums.
Just somewhat joking guys, we may as well play with the sterotypes we all get saddled with.

Cheers Richard.

This might be a surprise, but I sold my Submariner on Ebay and I got more than I was looking for. They have a large amount of Rolex watches transacted on there.

Post a photo...lots of us old guys who like a bit of bling here. I bought a gold and diamond datejust with the presidential band for my wife when she retired (gold watch for 30 years). It looks great on her and she loves it.

I could trade you my much more understated Timex "ironman" with plastic band and LCD display. It works/looks like new.

Or put on a trench-coat and hang out downtown?

But seriously... check eBay and the watch forms for a comparable to get a price... once you have that go to watchuseek and get a trade for a watch or two (or three) you can wear.

You can trade in at the jeweler Tourneau. I've had my Tag(s) cleaned there and every time I'm offered a trade in price. The prices are actually pretty good, more than I expected. However, they are only good for trade in amount applied to the purchase of a new watch. Worth the look.

1 - Tourneau have a HORRIBLE reputation. They will skin you alive.
2 - There are forums on which you can get info. Try TRF rolex forum, for instance.

Posting it here isn't a bad start. Lots of knowledgeable collectors here. The other suggestions would be the classified section on timezone.com and eBay. You could go to the Rolex forum on timezone.com and get opinions on valuation and then put it on the classifieds page.

EBay is probably the easiest. Lots of Rolexes sell on eBay. Lots of Rolex scams on eBay, too, so being able to demonstrate the watch's provenance is essential. Do you have the original box and papers? Any repair records that you can use to show it's original and genuine? Anything like that will increase its value and desirability.

Doesn't it having been your father's mean anything to you?

I'd like to suggest that you keep it as a memento to be worn on dressy occasions.

Is that a 116613 or a 16613 on the left?

This... If you sell it now you may regret that later on.

Personally I'd keep it.

Peter,

No Ferrari, but that one would suit me just fine. Very nice.

Thanks but it's not mine. (stolen photo) I thought people might like to know what a bark bracelet looks like.

IMO The classic Rolex is unbeatable.
