And the LAWS of physics always work whether the driver believes it or not. 100% of the time all the time 24/7 356. OK, in the world of quantum physics things get a little weird but that does not apply to cars.

Just like having 4WD does not overcome the coefficient of friction just because more wheels are driving.

Or as my Dad always told me as a teen driver...it's 4 wheel drive, not 4 wheel stop

All Wheel Drive = Hit the tree at higher speed
4 Wheel Drive= Get Stuck further from help.

But, in all seriousness, what sort of speed is required to produce that result? Any LEO / EMDs prepared to chip in?

It was probably 100+ to wrap the frame around the pole and break off the rear axel like that. It's hard to tell without seeing the skid marks.

LOL let me know how that works out for ya with all 4 wheels on ice.

It's meant to be a figure of speech if you couldn't tell.

Compared to that car, my 997 had a little scratch after hitting a light pole on the driver's door at a good clip, so I'm thinking well over 100 mph for the Volvo crash

You mean a car cannot be simultaneously wrapped around a pole and not wrapped around a pole?

Yes, and that's a trap I have let myself fall into. I get lured into out driving my stopping power by 4 wd "go" power.

By the look of the rear lights it seems to have been a non stock car.

I'm going contrarian and putting in 55 for the win as everyone has gone over.

The car is still around the pole. 100 should have sliced it into two pieces.

Good point MRM. However, with anti-lock brakes these days, we see less skid marks in the Accident reconstruction business. Still see Yaw marks and these can be used to calculate speed. Back in the day, I had all these formulas programed in "Basic" on the cassette tape drive of my computer: a TI 99A.

Figuring speed from "Crush" is a whole new issue. No longer an exact science like tire marks were.

Those are masks overlaying the stock tail lights.
Under the lenses on an S60 looks nothing like that.
