Texas weather update
Too much of a pain to search for my previous thread via mobile so excuse the new one.
They totalled my Mazda. Was really disappointed in the payout offer so dug up some comps. Told the guy they were an easy $1,000 to $1,500 off a realistic number. There is no way I could replace the car with something equal for what they wanted to give me. He said let me get back to you. 30 minutes later he called back and said yup, you're right. Will another $1,000 make it right for you? I took it, grudgingly. I feel really bad for the car. I know it's not sentient but it still makes me a bit sad. Was a great car that never gave me a minute of trouble and I enjoyed owning it. Real shame, mechanically it's perfect and a waste to resign it too the scrap heap but it is what it is.

I don't understand the process so bear with me. Can't you buy the car back, fix what needs to be fixed, and drive it? Is that economically feasible?

So what happened? Hail? Could you just buy it back?

Hail.
Really big hail. Lemon to baseball size hail. PDR would not have been enough, it needed at least 1/3 red respray and since its silver I would only do a full. My carrier totals at 60% of value. Repair estimate came in at 95% of value. The math to buy back, fix, and then sell just did not work. Not worth the headache to maybe get a couple hundred extra out of it.

I was thinking more in terms of you saving money by just keeping it if otherwise nice.

I have too many cars.
I work from home. The Mazda and Tahoe are my DD's plus I have the 911. I put 3,000 miles on the Tahoe last year and maybe 1,000 on the Mazda. I was going to sell the Mazda anyway since it is basically sitting and losing value. Tossing the money in the bank plus the repair check for the wife's Yukon and will sell the Yukon this summer and pick up a new truck for the wife so it works out.

Yukon and Tahoe are kind of redundant in the redundancy department.
Sorry for the favorite vehicle gone, but glad it wasn't any worse. |
