Here is why I think the knee-jerk tin foil hattery is irrational.
If you write auto insurance, you have no idea if the person drives like a maniac. All you get is his driving record for 2 years, gender, and age. That is archaic & limited. He might have a clean record, but might go drag racing at 3am every day. Maybe he drives 12 hours a day, non-stop. The insurance company knows none of this, so these factors are not used to determine your premium, and YOU pay the same as that guy. No longer! Now, with the GPS, they can get a sample of 3 months of your driving time and speed. Since I don't drive at 2am and I always drive under 55mph, and drive 1 hour a day, I am pleased to be able to prove that, finally. Now, I get rewarded with a 20% lower premium compared to others who drive like maniacs and drive late at night. Thank you for discriminating....and identifying lower risk drivers like myself, and rewarding me with lower fees with your innovative technology. (Just like you already do when pulling my age, gender, and driving record, and type of car.) The tin foil attitude towards the GPS is as self-defeating as refusing to tell the insurance company that you have never gotten into an accident or taken a driving class. After all, that is private information as well. Why pay more for insurance, and refuse to let them find out you drive the speed limit ??

I think it is safe to say that I am with the majority here that likes brisk acceleration and maybe a little speed every now and then.
If the insurance company saw the acceleration that I do in my TT , they would consider me un insurable. An aircooled that hasn't been over 55 is not what it is meant for.

be very careful what you plug into your OBD port. had a device in my suburban that kept it from going to 4 cyl mode and I swear it caused issues that imo were related to electric draw.

Obviously, drive slowly for 2 months. Then enjoy a 20% for the rest of your life, or until tht next speeding ticket
