Regardless of your opinion on commentators, my worry is ABC and ESPN had track record of doing a real bad job with Indy... NBC at least had practices, qualifying, race and the only occasional glitch was a move to MSNBC but my DVR always caught it... Pretty good as far as it goes for free..

On the + side, it's not Fox, because nobody I know has FS2 and I miss all the endurance racing that way. Kinda hoping liberty media goes subscription actually, that way I can cut the cord, as F1 is the only thing keeping me...

VincentVega 10-04-2017 09:25 AM

Good point. I ended up with a $$ package to get NBCsports and really that was just for F1.

I have FS2 but we have not met so that may not help your stats. SmileWavy

I just hate when the 'networks' get involved even though NBCSN is technically part of a network.

My fear is that ESPN is all things American and F1 does not fit that mold. Next thing you know, all races are tape delayed next Tuesday at 2 am.

I guess the good thing, silver lining, is that most races are Sunday morning so there is not much competition for the time slots. However, if a race goes long it will surely compete with some over analysis program for NFL pregame that drones on forever. Also, on Saturday F1 will directly compete with College Gameday. Right now it competes with Premier League and NBC simply switches one to CNBC or some other channel.

Diffey and his fake excitement (BRING THE ACTION!!!) is garbage, but I like the other three. Dumping Diffey for Varsha would be good.

Sometimes Matchett waxes on too much about his glory days, but that super loud wheeze when he laughs always makes me chuckle. And Hobbs is on top form, he mixes up all the drivers and cars, but his British humor (sometimes wildly inappropriate) is gold.

Deschodt 10-04-2017 10:01 AM

From what I read on twitter so far, Hobbs is retiring, Matchett isn't saying, Buxton is "wait n see". Diffey is an NBC man and will do Indy. Varsha is hopeful of a job, any job, anywhere ;-)

And now I know someone with FS2 - good for you Matt ! I need to whip out the ipad everytime, which I never remember to do. I can get to it via Comcast on the go (or whatever it's called) on a device, but if it's not on my TV listing getting auto-recorded by the DVR the odd are low. Haven't seen much WEC this year !

I think about how bad the motorsports coverage is on ABC... I'm betting that they dumb it down for people that know nothing about it, cut the coverage and bump it for other sports and hire an idiot like Eddie Cheever to replace Hobbs. Their Indy 500 coverage was always abysmal, I can't see this being a positive move.

Well they don't actually advertise it worth a crap anyway. So if I happen to see it I consider myself lucky.

Oh crap, I can hear it now. "Here comes Vettel in the 5 car." You know, the NASCAR (sucks) method of calling a race.

Then Vettel will say post race, "well the number 5, Kaspersky, UPS, Ferrari performed great today".

Eddie Cheever or Danny Sullivan. I'll pass on both.

NBC has set the benchmark for US F1 coverage.

I don't understand NBC's statement about competing against Liberty Media.

My thoughts exactly. They are abysmal for indy... And cheever was in F1, please noooo... Pretty sure there will be a liberty media site by then however...

DaveE 10-04-2017 11:41 AM

My guess there goes live coverage on many races. We’ll have Sunday afternoon edited races instead.

I think it is pretty convoluted but in nutshell, they each own media outlets that distro cable and also each own networks; both categories directly compete with each other. There is also a Univision / Telemundo issue. NBC owns Tele and one possibly two of Liberty's subsidiaries distro's Univision which is a direct competitor of Telemundo. NBC owns several entertainment platforms, Liberty owns Discovery and Starz.

So, if I have this right, NBC were good to broadcast F1 when the owner was not a TV/media conglomerate but now their interests at the larger corporate level conflict. Which is weird since NBC does not have a direct asset that conflicts/competes with F1 so really they are just broadcasting for a competitor.

That is at least how I understand the issue.

I think the WDC has been decided in Japan. :(

REALLY pathetic performance by the Ferrari team. Their collapse since the break has been quite impressive.

yellowperil 10-08-2017 06:17 AM

I like Ricciardo's method of uncorking his Champagne bottle on podium. First noticed it at Malaysia.

Good race for Ham fans, Ferrari will have to get better and lucky too, if they expect to have a shot at it. Four races still lots of points.

yellowperil 10-08-2017 09:15 AM

I'm surprised to see Kimi to be a nail biter. Wouldn't have thought he'd be the type.

It's something I've fought all my life, it's a hard habit to break. I know what it's like, now I can say I mostly have it under control.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1507482920.jpg

Formula Yawn strikes again.

Deschodt 10-09-2017 08:34 AM

Game over for the season...
Will be moderately interesting to see how Sainz does in the Renault, hoping to See Ocon score a podium, maybe Kimi winning one ? Not much else to look forward to now...

legion 10-09-2017 10:50 AM

Well, it used to be McLaren that would drop the ball at the end of the season like this....
