Today's press conference: "going back to the halo thing, do you think it’s disturbing for a driver from the point of view that it’s difficult to see from the car when the halo is on and do you think that it will impact your driving?" KMag: I think it could have an effect on tracks that are uphill, for example, turn one in Austin or Eau Rouge at Spa, you could struggle to see the top. But I’ve tried it once but not for very long so… Those laps didn’t feel great, it’s not a nice sensation to have something right in front of you. I'd go with the opinion of a driver, but I have no idea, I just think it's ugly and looks like the top part of a flip flop. Hopefully they can integrate it better, paint it etc... Between this crap and POrsche leaving sports cars again, meh... |

So why is a simple plexiglass wrap-around, attached to the bolster and open at the top, not an option?

I think that was one of the options considered and they chose this one for whatever reason

apparently that option made drivers dizzy from the distorsion. They might not have built it well enough (F16s get away with it fine) or maybe the material was judged not to be strong enough ?
The FIA rushed to the Halo because politically they had to do "something" or fear getting exposed to lawsuits (The bianchi family comes to mind)... So they picked "something". Problem is it kills the research on the more elegant options... |

Here is the FIA video in slow-mo and its quite frightening to see the damage a wheel/trye would do to a canopy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e87HIlOIYFA A big problem with a full canopy is getting the driver out of an up turned car which I think is the main reason for going with the halo

How exactly does the Bianchi family get anything other than a rude "too bad" verdict in any court action against the FIA? Maybe they could sue the track operators. But in what scenario does the FIA say "don't park the wrecker over THERE, park it over HERE"?

Interesting race, in a number of ways.
I thought the TV shot of Alonso sunning himself in parc ferme while the podium celebration was ongoing was brilliant. JR |

Magnussen live on Danish TV.

Except for the Monaco comments regarding perceived Ferrari team orders. I guess its bad if they do it but if he can get team orders to his benefit then its ok. Now he is being quoted as saying he wants to win the WDC "the right way". Hmmm, if that is so why do you need the team to tell Bottas to move over? Why not just pass him if you think you are that much quicker? Hungarian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton wants to win F1 title 'the right way' - BBC Sport The problem I have with this is that he says contradictory things. Let's revisit last race in 2016. Backing up the field so Rossberg would be potentially overtaken. How is that he 'right way'? And does anyone really believe he would have "won the title the right way" last year against Rossberg? Uh, no. Then there is Steve Matchett: its ok if he would have been able to pass a Ferrari or two then he could have kept the position. Since he did not pass he was obliged to give it back. WTF? Complete bollocks and pandering. Rest assured kids, he does calculated things to try and present a good image. However, he forgets that the TV broadcasts his in-race radio comments which usually present a different angle.

Hambone is still a kid. He doesn't think like us older farts. Many of his generation are like that. Maybe, in time, he'll think differently. Or not. F1 drivers are usually fairly self-centered.

If they could just keep the squids like gross-jeen and ka-vee-yat from driving over the top of other cars in turn one they wouldn't need a halo.
Ah the good old days when the brave were fast ....... and all they needed was hay bales. ![]() ![]() ![]()

That said: the after race comments were pretty juicy by these two. Maybe some fists will fly

Its a bit frustrating this is turning into a soap opera. Has honda made a step or just lucky? Does Kimi still have enough will to win again? Is that enough. Maybe I need a few weeks off too, this season isnt doing it for me. Happy break. |

Although they have covered the BHP deficit by half. I don't remember the actual numbers but they are climbing. It would be great to see them fight for wins the remainder of the season and put the entire thing into a tizzy. Pipe dream I know.
