SS office a mile from me, I went in one day about 10 years ago and applied for a new one, IIRC it took me 10 minutes and I got it in the mail in a week or so.

Need to use it occasionally to gain access to certain facilities. And, it CANNOT be laminated, per their rules. If it is, an original birth cert needs to be provided.

It is funny that they want that as ID. As mentioned earlier on the thread mine says right on it not to be used as an ID.

I recall going to the SS website and checking into getting a card. I thought they actually suggested not replacing a lost card for security reasons. I don't remember ever having one. I've had numerous jobs and travel over my 54 years and have never needed to show it. When asked as a new employee, I show my passport. HR doesn't need to see it, they just need some form of federal ID, a passport is better as it shows your picture. SS cards can be easily faked.

I bought a cool lock blade for a $1 and got a second for a penny from a comic book ad! The way it was advertised it looked like a foot long Stiletto from West Side Story. They were really cool but the blade was all of an inch and a half long! They were really well made for a buck though. Remember them?
