Storing Car On Lift
I see people using four post lifts for car storage. What about two post lifts? Can you hurt a car by storing it on a two post lift?

I have seen some wheel cradles on the Garage Journal that one of the members had made. I believe that there are some that are commercially available too.
Here is an example from Mohawk. https://mohawklifts.com/automotive-lifts/specialty-items/tire-engaging-adaptors/

I usually have a project stored most of the winter on a 2 post. Typically just take the wheels off to work on it and take weight off of the suspension.

Some guys will say long term storage on a 2 post is bad for a convertible or targa . Some will say suspension droop maxes out shocks/struts in the wrong direction . They may or may not be correct . I have never had my cars on my 2 post for more than a few days .
If I were to store for 6 months or longer I think I would remove the wheels/tires as a precaution . |

The Mustang in Jerry's photo is cream colored, not very close to the gold one, which looks fantastic, btw!
Any car can be damaged by being improperly lifted but assuming that does not occur, you can leave a vehicle up in the air forever with no detriment.

Thanks so much! My '65 is Prairie Bronze metallic. Sauterne gold was unique to '66 and is pale greenish gold. Apparently, matching subtle colors is difficult.

Here's one that has been up in the air since Jesus was in short pants at a shop in town. One post lift but 4 lifting points. Pretty sure it's just fine, if the owner would ever put it back together!

I don't see a problem, just make sure all 4 adjustable pads are the same height especially if a convertible. And on a convertible, I would open and close doors once up in the air and then a few days later.

And assuming there's a mechanical safety lock, make sure that's always engaged.
Don't rely on the hydraulics alone.

likes to left foot brake.

on some race cars having the shocks droop and not under the weight of the car is preferred between races or in the garage at home.

Two-post lifts still have four lift points. I would think that the car, even and especially convertibles, would sigh when you suspend them this way. Like.....Ahhhhhh......

I wouldn't do that with my MaxJax. One post keeps getting air in it. I can't see how it gets air in it when no oil leaks out. Can't figure out under what circumstance there would be a vacuum in the cylinder. The company has been no help. So I have to bleed it if it sits for a week or 10 days. It's is no fun when it needs to be bled and there is a car on it and one side lifts 6" higher than the other, so I don't keep cars on it.
![]() A couple of weeks ago I got distracted while bleeding it and turned the bleeder screw on turn to far. ![]() ![]() ![]()
