Apple lightening charge cords

We've been going through charge cords like mad. With 4 devices, we go through a cord about every month. Looking at the bad cords through a dissecting microscope, they have holes burned in the conductors. Apple says it is due to moisture contamination. That could be, as we have the chargers in our bathrooms and on on the kitchen counter.
So a word of warning - keep the cables dry.
I have looked and have not been able to find some kind of cover to slip over the end of the cord. Seems like a good idea.

Interesting. I've gone through a bunch also. Some I have to flip over to work. Been buying replacements through Amazon, they have some inexpensive ones with good reviews.

Are you buying Apple or third party cords?

I buy third party cords because they are cheap, but their quality is extremely variable.

We've been through a bunch too. The Apple branded ones are too expensive and don't last. We have tried several brands on Amazon. Most were good for a few months. Very few have a lasted more than a year.

We have had them stop working, only one side works and the most common problem, the end snaps off.

We have tried Apple, Belkin, and Brand X. Brand X definitely has the shortest life. I told Mrs WD not to use the chargers in the kitchen and bathroom because moisture and I'll get around to moving them someday.
"Why don't I just keep a cloth nearby and we can wipe them off before we plug them in?"

The iPhone original cord was a near bullet proof never fail cable. The "new and improved" lightning cable is pitiful. Fortunately they are available everywhere, even gas stations. I brought three cords with me on a vacation. All three failed. I had to buy one at a 24 hour Walgreen's to be able the us my phone.

I have switched to buying almost all of our cables from Monoprice. They have a lifetime warranty on all of their cables and arranging for replacements is very easy.

Gotta love phones that charge wirelessly, keeps cords/ports from wearing out. Those lightning connectors are way too weak for their intended use.

What about some heat shrinkable sleeves?

I've mostly avoided cheap cables because of what I'm afraid they do to the female socket in the iPhone/Pad. Now I'm even more concerned. If there is enough arcing going on to crater the contacts on the cord, what is happening to the contacts in the device?

I try to stay away from the lightening cords and just use the regular weight ones. Much more robust.

I was thinking the same thing, but maybe I've just been lucky! I've had multiple devices with lightening port for a few years and I've never replaced a cord. I buy more, because I like to have them wherever i need them and not carry with me, but I've never had one go bad.

I have had a couple non-apple cords work for a couple weeks and then the phone puts up a message that the cord is not supported. Two from Apple have died - these things don't like to be yanked out by the cord. We have 4 phones in the house and have 10 or so cords spread through the home and cars.
