Sixth day after the surgery...improving faster than I expected. The swelling is starting to decrease and the entry point at the hip is no longer oozing. The walker is no longer needed...can take slow steps unaided. Still some pain, but I think part of it is from the clamp/vise they put me in .
Along with the 3 boxes of stomach injections to prevent clots, they sent me home with a bottle of 325mg Norco for pain...I haven't had to open it.

The 325 is how much tylenol is in it. The first number is how much dope is there.

You are very fortunate. It was several weeks before my heel touched the floor.

I think my over-all health, even though being 63, has helped with the progress. Very thankful.
Tomorrow might use the JD...grass is getting long. Learned to make sure I have a pants belt handy...only way to get that leg up and over!

Nine days in from surgery...walking with a cane.
Tried doing without...both kneecaps started hurting. Therapist said it's because of the hesitant way I was walking (only way I could at this point) She put me back on the walker or cane and it started feeling better right away.
Absolutely no pain when standing with even weight on feet.

Last update for a while....
Yesterday went for the 10 day post surg exam to remove the staples and be inspected. Dr. said I was "leaps and bounds" ahead of schedule. Drove there with no pain..even with a manual trans.
Now it's just a matter of getting the leg muscles back in order.

Great news. I remember getting the 40 staples removed from my leg. Did not hurt a bit. I did not realize the the feeling had not returned.

The pulled the pin from knee to hip out of my femur after 1 year. It was irritating my hip joint when walking. Think I still have that pin somewhere.

21 days after surgery...no pain in leg, even with full weight on that leg alone.
Went biking today for the first time since...did only 7 miles and the leg feels great. The knee was popping and cracking the first couple miles...then it smoothed out and felt like normal.

Great news Steve,

Before I broke my leg, I was riding 40 miles round trip to work; after the healing, I rode 1 day the first week, 2 the second and so on up until I was riding everyday again.

First couple rides were pretty painful so knowing that cold therapy was something that is used for pain, I stopped at the DQ and had a large blizzard- I'm not a doctor, but figured the cold would find its way!

That is awesome. You must be made of good stuff to heal that fast.

That makes sense to me....DQ's MooLatte's are my fav.
Since the surgery, I have lost close to 15 lbs....down to 140...time to load up on the fat and calories!

Apparently you and I are in the minority for weight after an accident; when I ordered the groceries online, I thought I should get some chips and dip and some other goodies since I would be watching a lot of movies, after it showed up, I quickly realized that all I was going to be doing was watching movies and if I ate it all, they would need to take me out of the house by forklift, so I gave it away and ate very small portions of healthy stuff and lost a bit of weight.

I was still in my walking boot when my physical was due and my doctor usually gives me a little grief at my annual physical- I can stand to lose 15lbs or so most visits. This time since I knew I was down, I told her I wasn't going to take any crap about my weight this time- she kind of stuttered out oh, no, I would expect you to gain some weight after a traumatic injury, me, I said look at the chart, I lost weight!

Enjoy your DQ.

One month after having the rod inserted into my leg...went to Colorado and biked the Glenwood Canyon Trail. Trail was easy, except for a couple hills that really showed how weak the leg is.

Thought I would update this because it's one year to the day of surgery.
Leg is 100% ...full range of movement. Possibly even better than before the accident...due to working it so much last summer.

My car insurance and medical paid every penny. They told me to pick out a bike to replace mine. Didn't want to take advantage of them by choosing a top-of-the line road bike..so I picked this one.

The belt drive/8 speed is nice and smooth and quiet. I'm planning on biking trails more than roads..just too many distracted drivers around.
Insurance adjuster stopped out to verify and wrote a check for it.
