Anyone following HBO's the Leftovers ?
I caught onto that late - interesting premise with % of earth population vanishing on the same day- binged season 1 hoping for a clue, followed season 2 still hoping for a clue, but I confess I am really puzzled by this third and final season... Probably won't get an answer either... Are the writers on drugs? Am I missing the cliff notes somewhere ? Is it too sophisticated/intellectual for me ? Can anyone explain ? I mean I can theorize parallel universes but there were 2 Kevins on the same side in this one, and seriously, the penile door scanner ? who comes up with this **** ? Thinking writers on drugs.... Let me know if I'm totally missing the point...

I have been watching from the beginning. Season one follows the book according to what I have read. It is a take on a rapture type event and those left behind and how they deal with being a leftover. This season seems to be more a jab at organized religion with some of its themes and episodes.
Season One was interesting. Season two started to get weird. Season three has been a struggle to keep watching. Just don't find it interesting anymore and it has lost some of what drew me in. The characters have become more caricatures. The themes have become more out there. I am suspecting the final episode will leave lots of loose ends and a large leap in logic to "understand" what is happening. Kind of sad because I had hopes it would be more of the story of those left behind then what it has become.

Bailed after Season 2...no answers (didn't read the book....do they give a reason for the smokers in white?)

Ah, thanks guys, I was starting to wonder if it was just me... This season has been Weird, capital W. At this point I'll DVR the remaining episodes and see if there's any conclusion, but I lost interest..

The smokers were called the guilty remnant. They were there to remind the others that something did happen. Season three explains in part why one of the followers of the guilty remnant joined, her reasons for not wanting to continue with her life the way it was and why she eventually left the cult.
