Ringless Robo Calls

A company called All About The Message is asking the FCC to rule that robo calls that go straight to voice mail without ringing the phone are not phone "calls" and not subject to the already flimsy rules about telemarketing to mobile devices. My idiot congressman is no doubt on the side of the telemarketers but I'm giving him my opinion of the idea anyway. I think it's a horrible idea. Thoughts?

I would rather have lunch with a car salesman than stand in line at the counter with a telemarketer.

When I have some spare time I try to call those solicitors and waste as much of their time as I can without buying anything. They usually get upset when I start asking if Jesus Christ is their personal savior. One telemarketer finally told me he was a minion of Satan. He hung up when I started praying for him.

To me, unsolicited is unsolicited. Doesn't matter if it is Door to door, Mail, Email, Telephone, of Voice Messages.

Watched the new show on Velocity Network "Speed is the new Black." There were more commercials than actual programming. And that is on a network you have to pay for to receive. Won't be watching it.

I find it interesting that their logic is that because the phone doesn't ring, it's not a phone call.

Good. I never set up my voice mail, and if I miss a call, I simply delete whatever message was left.

So this will at least save me from looking to see who is callign before I ignore an unknown number.

Almost $100B is spent on TV advertising every year, which accounts for the nearly 15 minutes of ads in every hour of program time. And it's even worse during prime viewing times...almost a full 1/3 of NBC's popular "Today Show" is given over to commercials. There are over 120 individual ads during each 3-hour show...and that's not including over a dozen promo spots for other NBC shows and cut-a-ways to local news & weather.

Not sure if this is true or not, but I remember reading somewhere that we here in the US are exposed to more advertising in one year than our parent's generation saw in their entire lifetimes. And it's only gonna get worse...
