Snake i.d. help

Can someone tell me what I am dealing with here? Have looked at photos of snakes native to OK, but cannot match up a photo. Head seems to indicate poisonous. Located in NE OK. Thanks

Seems to have round pupils, not cat-like, so maybe not poisonous?

Doesn't look like a pit viper to me. More likely a boa or water snake.

But please, don't take my word for it!

Although the markings have high contrast to the body that looks like Black Rat Snake.

Is he that actual color?

Regardless, a variety of Rat Snake.

Harmless

I can say with 100% certainty it's not a boa or python.
It's some kind of snake indigenous to your area.
It also doesn't look poisonous. Although I suppose I wouldn't bet my life on that one (it's obviously not a rattlesnake, but I guess it could be a cottonmouth? I don't think so, I think it's some kind of common rat/corn/water snake)

It would help if we knew what state you live in.

It looks like a rat snake. Harmless, leave it alone, it will go away unless you have a mouse and rat infestation. In that case let him eat the problem for you.

That's a young Black Rat Snake... they are born with those markings and they turn 95% solid black as they get older.

Think you nailed it H & T. Thank you. He has moved under the rock 4th from right. I walk around here with no shoes quiet a bit. Have run off some black snakes, just have not seen them young with these markings.

I had many as "pets" as a lad... along with Hognoses, Kings, Pines, Greens, Black Racers, Garters, and Browns. One of my Black Rats was a female and pushed out 15-20 eggs. Fun times.

You want these guys around, they also have other snakes on their menu.
That is a good thing.
We try to protect these guys.
Nice call HnT
