Small plane down in SoCal

Being reported now. Small aircraft attempting a return to John Wayne airport didn't make it. Crashed onto the southbound 405. Two passengers survived but taken to hospital.

You might want to avoid the area for the day.

Here's a live video of the crash.

As of this time, the two passengers survived the crash, amazingly enough, and are at the hospital with "critical traumatic injuries."

The plane left the airport, developed engine trouble in the right engine, and circled back to attempt a landing. The plane crossed the north bound lanes of the 405, hit the center divider, and skidded across the south bound lanes and hit the sound wall. Wife got out of passenger's side and tried to help husband. Motorists had stopped and rushed to help, getting both out by the time first responders arrived. Plane clipped a pick up truck causing minor damage but a tremendous scare for the driver and passenger. Both o.k.

Freeway south expected to be closed until 5 p.m.--on a Friday of a holiday weekend. Going to be a traffic nightmare on surface streets and for holiday travelers. Glad no one died.

Cessna 310 twin lost an engine. Those fly like a stone on 1 engine. Hopefully they will recover from this.

The Cessna 310 flies like a stone on one engine if the propeller isn't configured correctly and/or if the plane is incorrectly loaded or just overloaded. Either way I crash better than anyone I know. MEII

We are wishing the two survivors the best during their recoveries.

Really amazing no one died! We were tied up in the traffic mess this morning trying to drive SB on 55fwy to NB 405. It was already at a stand still by 10am.

Ended up taking Mac Arthur Blvd across to shop at IKEA.

Traffic is still a mess in that area now.

Definitely divert around the area.

Wow in the video she is coming down hard. Not a whole lotta gliding going on.

This is a low wing plane right? Would a single engine low wing plane glide much better?
