A linode costs $5/mo for 20gb of storage, 2tb transfer, etc. OS needs 3-4gb, so figure 15gb of storage. Images, videos, whatever.
Use my linode reference code to sign up, and I'll configure it for you free of charge ... send me a PM for more details. |

Too big to fail

FWIW, imgur has blocked hotlinking on some of the forums

This is actually becoming a big problem... I see this in multiple threads on the different forums I use.
I'm guessing most people aren't willing to pay the money to hot link their photos. The Instagram effect? ![]() ![]()

Have had a domain and been hosting my own photos since 1991. Also have email and web.
Provide hosting, push based email that can include web site with ftp. ftp includes a feature called Drop Ship where you can email a link for someone to click and download the photo/file/movie etc. Share photos with a web ste. For posting have always just cropped and sized my photos for posting, uploaded them via ftp, then type in the web server link in the post. Suppose I could install software on the web server to make it work like flicker. Have one user that added web gallery to share their family photos. After the new wore off they don't use it much. Especially with the apps that manage photos on your computer. They just ftp upload the photos and email links to the people they want to share them with using Drop Ship. Have a desktop app you can drop photos on and it uploads the photos via ftp and puts a copy of the link on the clipboard. Paste it in an email and send it. Can be one photo or a directory of photos. Ony charge to help support the software licenses, business internet connection, storage, and server upgrades. If there is enough interest could setup photo hosting. But would have to charge a meager fee to help cover hardware/storage, internet connection, and maybe software depending on what works best.
