When Coors was regional, an acquaintance in Akron would fly to Denver for free on his Mom's stewardess job, take a cab and buy two cases of Coors and fly back to stock the party. It was a hit.

I never got into Coors. If I drank it enough, I would have liked it. :D

My hot, sweaty, dehydrated beer of choice is 50% Corona (or similar) 50% pink grapefruit juice. They call it a Radler and it comes in cans, but I just mix my own.

I wouldn't do that to a good beer, but its just Corona.

I once knew a guy, an "acquaintance" who got on a kick where he would order a Guinness.

One.

He'd pretend to drink it but almost never finished it.
Why? because he was a phony snob.
He didn't like the taste but thought (mistakenly) that it somehow made him cooler when he ordered something different.

I know another guy who lives in south orange county (snob central).
He got on that stella artois kick, believing it was french.
I told him it was distributed by Anheuser-Busch and in Europe is often called "wife beater" beer, now he doesn't like it anymore.

Different beers are great at different times and in different situations. Hot day at the lake? Miller Lite with the screw on top is perfect, your beer floats right next to you.:) My beer fridge has everything from Michelob Ultra to Duvel, variety is the spice of life!

Argh, around here I'm surrounded by micro brewery outlets. 150 meters each way from my house. And I can't drink any of their beers. Around here they are of the mentality of more more more, so there are so much hops you can't drink it. Or if you ask for one not drowned in hops the yeast infection will take over. There is a factory beer that sells for a discount at the supermarket because it's not trendy anymore, and it's called Tui East India Pale Ale. Very nice and crisp and ordinary - tastes just like beer.

It seems that Indian Pale Ales are all the rage and the hoards of beer drinkers out there are sucking down as much as everyone can produce. Way too much hops for me. I suppose if I were stuck in colonial India and that was all that was available, maybe I could get it down. But there are so many other choices out there that I do like. I tend to gravitate to the darker brews. My rule of thumb is it has to be darker going in than coming out.

We have a local microbrewer called Tin Man. I confess, I really like one they call Czar. At $10 for a 4 pack its just a bit more than I want to pay on a regular basis. When I mow the yard I usually stand back and admire the pretty lawn with a ice cold Bud Light. If I have some weeds to kill with roundup or some other final chore, I will follow the Bud Light with a Fat Tire. Of course my favorite

I save those for finishing up a valve adjustment or brake pad replacement. I figure I have to earn them as they are pricey.

Guinness is different? That is the stout for the masses. While o.k. (especially here in the states) it is nothing amazing.

Founders Breakfast Stout, now that is a good Stout.

Ten Fiddy another great stout.

Don't get me started with the imperial stouts. I love me some 10% plus Stouts.


I am with you on the Stella, never understood the fascination with it, I tried it, it is nothing special.

When I was in West Baden (French Lick) at the round hotel at the bar in the lobby they had Guinness on tap, done right. Dang that was good. Done right, it is a great beer. If it is a little old or flat, nope.

We got a new boss who had just left the Guinness factory - the real one in Ireland, and he would take us to the pub on Friday lunchtime for a Guinness. We drank it because we wanted to keep our jobs but eew, it made me want to pray to the porcelain god.

I visited the factory in Dublin 3 weeks ago. I was skeptical about reports that Ireland Guinness was better than American (or anywhere else I guess) so I tried some around Ireland. I started every meal with one then switched to Whiskey (Powers or Bushmills) for the rest of the evening.

I also tried some at the Guinness Storehouse as well. I was surprised, the Irish version is much mellower, creamier and has more of a chocolate taste to it.

The day I got back home I went to the corner bar and had one and it was more bitter and less tasty, almost stale tasting.


Yes, I agree with you, now that I have had the Irish version, I no longer want to drink the export crap.

Ha ha! "Lawnmover beer," great description. The micro brewery here in town has gotten me back to drinking beer. I didn't really like any of the national brands . They make a summer beer called "Springer" which is perfect for a hot day.
Their description:

"Springer is a light summertime ale with just enough hops to drown out the nagging voice in your head that says “mow the lawn.” Adjuncts? Yeah, we use ‘em! Enjoy this fruity treat while it lasts. Floral and flowery with a touch of grass."

+1 on that. It's the beer to have if you're having only one.

One of our local breweries makes a good lawnmower beer.
