Do you SERIOUSLY want to help save the planet?

Take a look at this article from a UBC study on climate change and then decide....

Serious about stopping climate change? Have one less child, UBC study says | National Post

This really comes as no surprise to me! I've long believed that this planet cannot sustain our current population growth.

The top three:

(1) Have fewer children = A savings of 58.6 less tonnes of CO2 / year / child!!
(2) Live car free = 2.4 tonnes
(3) Avoid ONE less trans-Atlantic (or trans-continental) flight per year = 1.6 tonnes

Apparently hanging up our clothes to dry instead of using a clothes dryer just AIN'T gonna cut it!

Well, what are YOU going to do to save us all?:p

So the plot of Idiocracy is pushed into action? The smart people stop have kids and the idiots and breed like rats.

Individuals will have very little impact on the planet. Long after humans are all gone the planet will be here and there will be little evidence of humans on earth. The stuff we left on the moon and Mars may be the only long term evidence of humans.

the next logical step to save the planet is suicide.

hint hint.

i'll see this thread again when it reaches parf.

Europe and Japan are pleading with their citizens to have more babies. What's more important sustaining GPD or the planet?

manbridge 74 07-19-2017 10:48 AM

Overpopulation?

It's a myth...

As the poster says, I don't downshift my V-8 Mustang often, but when I do, it's next to a Prius so he can hear me ruining the planet.

Also, I sometimes celebrate earth day by falling a tree.

I was a little shocked at number three..."really long plane trips"....only TWO less per year would be better than going car free for the whole year!.....mmmmm Mr. Motion???

My wife and I only have one kid so we're entitled to our annual trips to Hawaii!!

Actully we could take 58.6/1.6X2= 18.31 trips to Hawaii per year to make up for one less kid!;)

Somebody has watched (or read) Dan Brown's Inferno a few too many times.

Tervuren 07-19-2017 11:20 AM

Man, and Obama took a 747 to Hawaii from the Eastern United States every year. Think of how much planet saving we could of done without re-electing Obama to be president once we found out this was part of his deal?

sammyg2 07-19-2017 11:24 AM

The idea that a single individual's actions would make ANY difference to the planet is silly and way over the top. It's social engineering.

You just aint that important.

sorry.

If you look at your list all those problems stem from earth's infestation of the human race.

Eliminate people... problem solved!

aschen 07-19-2017 11:37 AM

car free savings of 2.4 tonnes only makes sense for the benchmark of a small car driven a few thousand miles per year

an f150 has emissions of around 1 lb per mile so say 6 tons for a typical 12k usage case

Won't work, men in third would countries feel that condoms are 'unmanly'.
As a work around those countries teaching women how to use condoms and distributing them to the ladies.

Most of the problems in your post are fixing themselves... more and more kids are not interested in a drivers license or getting a car... many young married couples are opting to not have children. (at least in America)

:)

I totally agree that every woman in every country should be limited to 2 kids per lifetime! Bar code them and then after the second child,.. snip... It's the only way.. lol..
