Dang Markus, you're going to have so many friend requests your daughters will think you're the "Swedish Justin Bieber"!

You definitely need a profile picture or at least the icon that you use here on PP.
If you have any favorite magazines or companies or public figures, you can search for them on facebook and then either like them or follow them. So, for instance, you could search for Ruf and then when/if they post stuff, you might see it. You could search for Porsche or your favorite car magazine or your favorite Nobel prize winner, and if they have a profile, and you like or follow them, you'll see their stuff in your "feed". If you like something, your friends will see what you like. You can, of course, set up who sees what you like and I think you can even do that per like (maybe). I have a couple of astronomy clubs and magazines that I've liked and I get posts about astronomy on my feed as well as Porsches and a couple of car groups or magazines. If you "friend" someone, and they end up posting a bunch of stuff that you don't want to see on your feed, you can go to that person's profile and "unfollow" them. That way you can still be friends, but you won't see what they post (or if you prefer, you can unfriend them).

I'm with cairns on this one. Never saw the point of it. Can count my good friends on one hand. Don't have a smartphone either, tracfone flip phone for emergencies. See a lot of dullards with faces buried in their phones, not watching where they're going, bumping into people, cars, buildings. All Darwin candidates afaic. These people need a life....

My daughters started a FB page for me many years ago.......I almost never go there and I've never type a thing on it....or anyone else's for that matter. Delete copious e-mail notifications almost daily.

It's a form of entertainment that I browse while eating breakfast. Everything is new every morning, because that is the only time I look at it......could care less about seeing updated posts all day long like the mindless people who have thier heads permantely buried in thier chest.

I'm on it everyday.. I have lots of specialty groups that I visit. I only peruse through the main feed for a few minutes.
That being said, we are organizing our 35th high school reunion right now and it's very frustrating trying to find people who are not on FB.. It should be a requirement.. ha ha .. And what's up with the females?? For god's sake, PLEASE put your maiden name in your profile name. Nobody knows your married name! lol..

Bingo. No facebook, no tweet...despite knowing people would be absolutely fascinated that I mowed the lawn today.

Wow, thanks everyone for your input! I thought perhaps I would be banned. I really appreciate your comments and personal experiences. Thanks for adding me. I have always been a firm non-beliver in that kind of social forums and it will probably take a while to get used to it and find a reasonable level of user activity. Pelican is so far the only forum I have been active on although lately not so much. Come to think of it, you guys have been a part of my small world for over 12 years now. Its been a privileges and an honor.
Thanks! ![]()

Just keep in mind that unless you use your security settings properly, that any thought that you express in words on Facebook will be out there forever, and seen by all your "friends", and if they comment, all of their "friends" also.
I kind of treat it like giving a speech on stage, keep it short, to the point, and know your audience. |

Request sent Marcus.
My wife uses mine because she doesn't want the pressure of her own page, whatever makes her happy. Aside from following our families, I usually navigate to my groups... 996, Lotus, vintage racing |

Was on FB for a couple years back around 2010-2011. Realized there was nothing of interest on it for me.
People I know and care about I talk to or see in person Information I need I can look up on the internet or the old fashioned way (library) My car "fix" is assuaged by car forums, my ever growing book collection, car magazines, car clubs and going for a drive Maybe I'm just becoming a crotchety old man. But, I see nothing but hours wasted on "Why are people so mean", "Girl Power" and other silly commentary. Also, I see no value in sharing details of my life to be easily harvested by corporations and the government. For those who enjoy it I applaud you. However, from my conversations I have noticed more people leaving than joining. |

Petrolicious sends some nice fb feeds. I got on for a high school reunion effort. But I don't post much.
