Buisness Cards?

Do you still use them? I ran out some time ago, Have not really had any body ask for one in a long time.

Yes, still use them. Mine are more for other contractors vs potential customers. I'm only 41 but still rely on old school techniques sometimes...Steve

A quality one makes an impression, I probably hand one to two out a day.

I have cards and a bunch of pens with my office info. I tend to have a pen on me more often than a card. Patients like the pens, large diameter with the cushy rubber bit where your fingers go, just the ticket for an older person with arthritic hands. Pens run like fifty cents a piece.

I have business cards, and I have personal cards.
About the only place I use them is at conventions / expos.

And placing them in the "win a free lunch" jar at the local restaurant.

I've never won that damn free lunch, though.
I guess the old saying is true.

College provides them for me - I typically *need* to give my contact info to someone once or twice a year... and I never carry cards with me.

Also, they don't like to order cards when the info on them changed. So when our domain name changed (sfcc -> sfcollege) everyones cards were wrong, and sending email to the wrong Santa Fe. My office has change numerable times. My email changes when our domain changes. Only thing that has stayed correct for the past 20 years have been my name and work phone number.

Just got new cards last year - new departmetn name, new college logo, had all correct information. Since then my office has relocated twice (in the same building, so not too bad - 150 to 140 to 138) and my job title has changed.

If I were designing my own cards, it would be my name, my email (that isn't changing) and a QR code pointing to a webpage where I could put all the other info and keep it up to date.

Of course, we are in the middle of changing our website structure too.... so any page a QR points to will likely be 404 in a few months...

I'm looking at a box of about 900 of them in front of me, doing nothing other than what cashflyer does too, but on a side note the guy across the hall did win Chick-fil-A lunch for the whole shop, by doing the jar thing

Good, I don't feel so bad then. I handed out my last few over a year ago. I keep putting off getting new ones made, but honestly , it is a rare occasion when I would actually get to hand one out.
I used to carry them with me everywhere. Always had a few in my wallet, kept them in the car, my briefcase, etc. Changing times ...

We have cards and I handed out several just yesterday. I am checking out the Q-code on the back of the card. The q-code is the square thing that looks like black snow. A phone with the right app can instantly translate that to a contact information and they can save it to their contact list. It can have all sorts of information embedded in it. The front of the card is the analog part for people that are still in the 20th century and just want to read it.

In my field it's still standard for everyone to trade cards at a meeting with new clients.
I learned the trick to place the cards in front of me in the order of the people I've just met sitting around the table, you'll not forget their names that way!

Until you get the one millennial doofus who doesn't carry cards, I forget his name immediately. Too bad, so sad, bring a card next time.

I make my own cards using Microsoft Publisher.

Anytime I want to update or tweak the design, I just pull up the file on my PC and do it. I buy the printer paper that is on heavy stock and perforated so I just run off a few pages worth and that usually lasts me a while.

I have a business website and that is on my card so anyone can go there if they want more info.

I use them both professionally and personally. You never know when you're going to have a chance to network. Also been very useful for me when i've received them. Can't see them going out of style any time soon.
