Tesla Model 3
Anyone have one on order?
It really looks nice: https://www.engadget.com/2017/07/29/tesla-model-3-first-ride/ If we spent most of our time in the city, it would be a no-brainer.

Looks like realistic price (before dealer added profit) will be in the 45-50k range.
People who put deposits down in 2016 hope to have a car in 2018.

Tesla sells direct, correct? Shouldn't be any gouging.

I'm not sure it's a lot better than a Chevy Bolt.

Similar price, similar range. I'm guessing the 3 will perform better and will have a nicer interior.

Wife wants one. I think she is on the list. Her bro got her a spot. My electrician is ready to upgrade mt garage.
I'm cool with it. It would be perfect for her uses. Me? No so much.

I'm not a fan of the Bolt but the advantage that Chevy has is an established dealer network across the country run by a profitable corporation that won't go belly up if the pork barrel dries up.

What a POS!
![]() ![]() I recently saw a Tesla in real life and they are thing to behold. As good as the best from Japan or Germany.

They're interesting all right...but I can't agree with that comparison. I see quite a few Teslas around here and I've been to one of their stores for a good close-up look at what they've got. While they're very nicely turned out (especially for such a new company), it's in the smaller details where they fall short of other cars in this class. In my opinion, the widest gap in quality was found in the interior...just didn't measure up to the high-end stuff from Europe or Japan.

If I were buying an electric car 'appearance' would be way way way down the list. The Bolt works, the 3 is full of untested technology.

I think Tesla has more experience with electric cars than Chevy. I doubt there is much untested tech in a 3.

I have a non-disclosure agreement with my employer (and Tesla) so I can't go onto details, but I do know a lot about the new car. There is some very cutting edge and previously untested technology in the drives. It may be fine, it may also be very troublesome.
It is not simply a scaled down S or X.

I could live with the base model. I live on an island and travel maybe 15-20 miles a day.

I would definitely like to pickup a commuter car. My wife and I commute about 1 mile each way to work. Most days, our travel is under 10 miles. If one of us had an electric, it would be fine, since we can always switch cars if one needs to make a longer run.

Teslas look good on a flatbed - where they spend a goodly amount of time. And they're hard as hell to get in for repairs.
