My nine year is absolutely viscous at people when they say it wrong. Other kids, adults all get the same tongue lashing.

I humor people and say "Porch-cha" even more wrong than they do. Just to be silly.

It's a semi silent e on the end.

Not Porsch-AH.

But rather Porsch
e

LOL, I had to google that, but yes, thanks.

Would Porsch be like Chevy. Just a nickname??

cabmandone 09-02-2017 05:20 AM

My 15yr old son is crazy about this. He's quick to correct anyone calling it a "Porsch" including myself when I let it slip on occasion.
I was picking my son up from football practice recently and a few of the guys were in the parking lot discussing what the car is called. One said "it's right there on the back of the car" and then went on to say "it's a Porsch". Another boy said "no it's PorschA". One of the boys yelled over to me "hey! Who is right?" I said Porsha and the group on the PorschA side just laughed.

Because most Porsches were sent here. It saves time when one zooms by. " hey did you see that Porsh?"

Nick Triesch 09-02-2017 09:46 AM

I used to correct people when they said it wrong. I don't any longer because it makes Porsche owners sound like snobs. Also, it is rude to correct people when they do not pronounce a word correctly . Finally, life is too short to worry about it.

I was at the Ferrari club at a classic vintage race and I asked a member if they have any members that have the 308 series? He told me that most Ferrari owners consider true Ferrari's to have 12 cylinders. Just filthy snobs. Porsche owners are better than that.

Funny when those claim superiority on pronunciation using "ah", but are still saying it wrong.

I think saying "Poorsh" sounds like you're a pretentious @$$hole.

If PAG cares, they could change the spelling to P-O-R-S-H-A.

Everyone said Porsch where I grew up, way back when.

That tends to stay with you.

RDM 09-02-2017 11:11 AM

For the same reason we don't pronounce München or Köln or Nürburgring as a German would; we speak English.

Note that Germans don't pronounce their country's name the way we do either. We're just bad news all around on the pronunciation front.

Here's how the the folks that built the cars pronounce Porsche.
