Why do most Americans pronounce "Porsche" wrong?

Being a life long Porsche guy, it annoys me to hear most people, even Porsche owners, pronounce the car as "Porsch"... The "e" on the end is NOT silent! Why do people do that???

I went into Stoddard Porsche in 1993. My three year old daughter said "Look at all the Porsch-ahs" The salesman said "Hey, she is saying it right".

Check out some German Youtube vids. We all mispronounce Porsche.

For those that say Porsh, I got a sharpened railroad spike waiting to penetrate their neck.

I am old, though. Been a decade since I took somebody out.

I know why, and you've already told us why.

I've heard factory drivers mispronouncing it on stage at a Porsche sponsored event. It seems weird, but life's too short....

German is my first language and I don't pronounce the "uh" part all the time. Sometimes I even call it a "Porch".... sue me...

What did irritate me when flying missions was when my military counterparts stated we will be landing in "Rain Main" Germany...

So do you also pronounce other German words phonetically correct (I.e. BMW , VW, city names et)?

I don't think many of us have a clue on genuine pronunciation.

If you own one, it's Porsch ah.

I have had a German colleague of mine call it a Porschee. Who cares.

Cause I feel like it. I own ten of the cars and Will call them any damned thing I want, sometimes even swear words when they act up!

I will say this tho....when I was in Stuttgart at the factory I called them Porsh -uh out of respect. Kind of like being at Graceland.

If this is your biggest concern you don't live in Huston, Venezuela, or any host of countries on this planet where everyday life is a struggle for survival.

When you have a real issue, other than a topic which has been beaten to death on several threads, use Search, then 'lettuce' know.

Have a great day.

I've been called Manson, Munson and Monsoon my whole life. I don't care, just like I don't care how people pronounce Ferry and Ferdinand's last name.

Catorce 09-01-2017 06:54 PM

I knew Manson would drop by at some point.

I recall being in Munich and hearing locals pronounce it "Porsh".

matt930s 09-01-2017 08:16 PM

You mean München?
Lol..
