True. Hmmm, this makes me wonder how many running and rust free Yugos are out there..

They are an odd anomaly on the showroom floor that are fun to look at for a minute but almost no one actually wants to own, at least not if they have to pay for it. They are one-trick ponies that don't serve people's transportation needs.

And therefore become rare, collectible cars later.
Not so sure about the Camaro more than a one trick Pony, does well in the quarter, the twisties, and can serve on the street, so it could very well become the next '69 Z-28. But I highly doubt a chevy volt will ever be sought after as a collectable.

That's the point, by the way. What is, or could become a collectable car vs. what has, or will be considered a worthless POC. Pick 'em..both from the same car maker.

I meant "ZL-1" Camaro. ZR is the vette.

I actually like them, a lot. But as a practical matter not a great car. That is where Porsche has always beat them all, "the everyday usable super car."

Better still I remember looking at 330gt2+2 for less than 50k. Wasn't that long ago.

Yep, was a time when they we very reasonably priced... today, not so much. Sad because I always loved the Dino... oh well, maybe a Mondial someday.

Yes, fuel crisis... plus some in Ford were bothered by the fact that the Mustang (originally on the Falcoln platform) had gotten Bigger and bigger and heavier, so...

They rebodied a Pinto and called it a Mustang.... even dropped a V8 in it.

The 924 was originally a replacement for the VW Karmann Ghia (as was the 914 before it. Both 'moved' from VW to Porsche, who was in trouble.)The Porsche 912E filled in for a year between them.)

The 924 was an Audi, built by Audi with a VW Super Beetle suspension. With a nice looking body.

But... it was a good, attractive car for the times and they sold like crazy... bailing Porsche out (again), like the 914 did.

Friend had a 924 turbo (931), fun car, good torque.

In defense of the 924, it did have more HP than a 2 liter 914.... barely

One of these was for sale nearby a while ago. I considered it just because I enjoy pissing people off. Many things make a car valuable. One of them is passion. People passionate;y hate this model.

I had one of those after high school. a 1978 mustang II mach 1.

Black and silver with dark tinted T tops, a 302 V8 with a 2bbl carb and a whopping 139 hp sal-oooot!

POS, couldn't power brake that thing if it were sitting on a sheet of ice.
Chicks dug it tho.

Looked kinda like this:

And another 165322 944's of various versions.

That's more then the G series 911

So to say nobody wanted them bit silly.. If anything Porsche kept from going out of business through 924 and 944 sales.
Why would they sell that many of them if nobody wanted them???

I have a Cayman now, but i'de still get a 924 if the right one came along for the right price.. they are fun cars.
1,642,587 Chevy Citations were manufactured during its production run, but I don't think there's a big market for those these days...funny when was the last time you even saw one on the road. I think all 1.6 million of them have rusted to death...

If you think shrinking the ginormous MachI Mustang down to the Mustang II size was an abomination, take a look at what chrysler did to the Lebaron and you'll start to get what was going on with gas prices and the pressures of japanese disposable cars becoming more reliable and displacing domestic sales.
