Isn't that a CE and not an Anniversary edition?

![]() I miss my old '88. Now if I could only win the lottery! I think that was the anniversary edition with the body color wheels.

John Davis is timeless, he still looks and sounds the same.

When the Carrera model was introduced in 1984 Road and Track tested it. They proclaimed it the fastest production car sold in the USA. The fastest 0-60, 1/4 mile and highest top speed. With a whopping 200 HP.

"Sensations no car can, or ever will, match"
John captured it pretty well.

I have an 84 And the PO gave me a copy of that article with the car. If I recall correctly C/D claimed a 5.4 second 0-60. I spent a lot of time looking for other reviews of the same car. No one else ever claimed a speed quite that fast. Someone said something like Car & Driver might have gotten that as their absolute best time with a professional driver on a perfect course with a perfect takeoff with the perfect clutch dump. But all of the rest of the reviews seemed t have it inthe higher 5.4 second range, which was a full second quicker than an SC and incredible for the day.

I think my 2nd gear synchro will last about 5.7 days making those 0-60 times.

Now in 993 land ...

If you don't own the car, you probably can get one of those under 6s.
![]() Nice report and spot on. The controls SUCK on these cars. Remember what else was available in the US in 88 ... this was a special car indeed. G |

It's a well-known thing in the automobile magazine business that Car and Driver generally got better times than anybody else, simply because they beat on the cars harder to get the numbers. There are other factors, like the actual test weights in question, but that's the biggest reason.
For those of you think the G50 (Borg Warner) synchromesh was light years better than the Porsche synchromesh, let's just say that they were both capable of equally fast shifts when new, and a G50 transmission can be damaged as badly as a 901 or 915 by assuming that they are bulletproof and abusing it. |
