I think in some of these situations reason overtakes fear. He knew he could blow the drywall out so he did have an egress option, thankfully.

If the roofing nails weren't biting into the back of your skull, then it wasn't a tight fit.

Funny you should mention that. Notice there are no (or very few) roofing nails sticking thru. That's because I did my own roof about 5 years ago and I used the correct size nails. I was sick of stabbing myself on the original nails. I also pulled every single old nail out of the roof so I would have a nice smooth attic.

I started wearing a hat when in the attic

I'd be willing to bet there was cussing involved. I have never gotten stuck but I have tucked all 6 feet of me into places I shouldn't have. That's one of the reasons I don't do HVAC anymore.
On your wiring, If the hole where the wire passes through the drywall is big enough to drop the lights, buy a remodel box that has tabs that fold out and secure the box to the drywall. As long as the box isn't relied upon to carry weight, all good.

Next time you go up there, bring a cover for the outlet box, and some nails for the simpson bracket....

I agree about taking phone, it's bailed me out of a few predicaments.

I already bought 4 of the junction boxes that have expanding arms to fit between th joists. I'm pretty sure my friend will be able to fit. This is actually not a bad area to work in because you don't have to crawl thru the whole attic - it's just a few feed from the fold-out attic ladder/stairs.

Agreed. I'm going to Home Depot on the way home. I want to use metal outlet covers instead of the plastic ones that I have millions of.
