They all look alike
Today's utility sedans. In a parking lot, I was pushing the fob to turn off the alarm of Cindy's new Camry. Couldn't figure out why I didn't hear a beep and see the parking lights flash.
Then it dawned on me...I was standing in front of a same colored Nissan. ![]()

They are all trying to follow the same market forces, safety standards, and fuel consumption regulations (aerodynamics plays a role).
They don't have to look the same, but the odd man out is typically shunned, and not embraced in our society. The tall poppy syndrome. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tall_poppy_syndrome

I want my chrome and fins back... (No, not really.)
I do like the look of the new Jaguar F-Pace, but then I realized the new Lexus SUV, the Mazda CX-5, all have that big grill, which means yeah they all look a like. |

It is silly how much so many of the cars of today do look alike. The Japanese have some of the ugliest cars ever made. The Hyundai line is pretty decent looking.
Some of the ugliest is the Lexus RX. It looks like the alien in Predator. ![]() ![]()

We have 4 company cars all by different brands in our parking lot....all painted silver. I have to walk out and push the keyfob to see where the car is, before I look like a fool trying to climb into the wrong car.

Why? surely aesthetically appealing vehicles would be received well with the motoring public .
I don't get it . There is just a sea of blah out there right now .

The family cars when you were a kid thread brought on the nostalgia for when USA cars were stylin'. Sure they rode on soft suspensions, didn't corner or stop well, and were gas hogs. But we were Americans driving on straight roads and burning cheap gas.
Cindy's Camry is a great grocery getter...and it drives out well for what it is. But aesthetics? Well... even my now old, slow, and obsolete '09 Mustang looks exotic by comparison. The '18 Mustang looks semi cool, but there is price grumbling among the Mustang loyalist set. A well equipped '18 GT 5.0 now stickers well north of $50K.

entertaining the idea
|
A few years back my dad was picking up their dog at the local small town vet. The dog had a small procedure done and wanted out of the vet's office as soon as my dad picked him up.
My dad had a white sedan at the time. I think it was a 2005 or so Chevy Malibu. Anyways, my dad leaves the vet and gets in the car with a very upset dog. They got into the wrong car. Same color sedan. By the time my dad realized this, the dog was already in the back seat and was having no part of getting out of the car at that time. Fortunately the owner of the other car saw the humor in the situation and helped my dad get the dog out of that car and into his car.

I got my '16 for $35k out the door. Of course the only options on mine are a full-size spare and better tires.

They looked the same back in the day also. I had a '67 Mustang coupe and went to a store, just happened to park next to another light, slightly darker, green Mustang coupe. Came out of the store and the owner of the other one was sitting in my car with kind of a confused

The worst problem here in LA, (and other big cities), is people just hopping into the back seat of your car and asking if you have an iPhone charger. I think that half the cars on the road are Lyft or Ubers now.
