Even though I voted against GW, in these times, it just seem stupid to not support our president.

I can understand people being against certain administration policies.

Don't you liberals get it....in most of the world political disagreements end with a bullet in the back of the head...and it's the liberal guy who is trying to "understand" his oponents pain that is on the receiving end. The only reason Sodam is cooperating in any fashion or form are the 225,000 USA troops that have their guns aimed at his head. Otherwise he would be flipping you the bird.

Now lets talk about some duplicity....the French take the lead on that one...on one hand they say let's talk about it, impose sanctions and give the inspectors more time.......meanwhile they sell Sodam more military hardware, and just in general are violating the very sanctions that they have helped implement. US troops are going to die on that one, so let's hail French virtuousness.

The Germans which NOBODY on this board really holds accountable for anything....are equally culpable in selling weapons and chemicals to Irak. They too, if they had been less Greedy and more cooperative with the USA MIGHT have forced Sodam to disarm or leave the country. Americans are going to go into harms way and some are likely to die because of German Greed and Political unwillingness to do anything.

We did it the Liberals' way for eight years in a row and had almost no serious issues with the Middle Eastern countries... and then George Bush the lesser takes office and all Hell breaks loose... just like they did eight years prior when George Bush the elder was in office. I know that there are more complicated issues in this than whether a Repubican is in office or not, but you have to admit that's the way it is...

That being said, I have to agree that the French's opposition to our occupation in the Middle East is only because they want to look out for their own interests.

The USS Cole in 2000, the US Embassy in Kenya in 1998 and the WTC in 1993, WTC 2001 was at least 4 years in the planning (no matter who was President it was going to happen)...In 1996 Bin Laden said, "Kill Americans where ever they are." Thats all nothing....so get your head outa your @$$.....what you take for granted today....your car, your TV, washin machine all can be gone tommorow.....What in the world makes Americans think a Great Depression like the 1930's or worse can't happen again.......explain to me why it can't......I'm puzzled? Don't you get it ...history is full of misadventure and the improbable becomes fact. So in the great scheme of things you like going to college, you like your car, you like washing your clothes in a machine and probably strive for a upper middle class job and life style when you enter the job market....so if by living in the USA you can attain those things...don't you think thats the side you should support and be gratefull that you have those opportunities...because in the rest of the world it ain't like this....I just got done talking to a financial planner from India and he's real happy to be here, because opportunities are open to everyone. Now to be sure there is blood on your hands as an American......to keep that car, that TV, that washin machine somebody is going to have to do something thats not pretty whether on purpose or just plain expediency.....but NOTHING comes for free....so which is it washing your clothes on a rock....or in a washin machine? Read my post more closely: I said that it was more complicated than that, and alluded to the fact that it was an oversimplification. That's the way it is, but I'm not drawing any conclusions from it.

Tabs: I've said numerous times, I love America, I love living here, and I am thankful every day that I am able to enjoy the freedoms that I enjoy. I don't agree with what the current administration is trying to do, so I speak out against it. And I get crucified for it, being labeled "UN-Patriotic" and a "commie" and a "hippie." Sorry, I'm not a mindless sheep and I'm not afraid to speak my mind. I think that what the Bush administration is doing right now is really bad for our country. An attack on Iraq WILL increase terrorism on our soil (as the CIA has been trying to tell him for months), and going to war will tear this country apart even worse than during the Vietnam era. Many of his policies have been metaphorical steps backwards, especially in terms of foreign policy. Bush has made many more enemies than friends so far, and people are getting more scared... as people get more scared, they speak out more and more against what is happening... and the more people speak out, the more they are attacked by Bush's supporters, limiting the freedoms that we are claiming to be protecting in the first place. I am scared about how things are going right now, much more scared than I have ever been in the past.

IMO it's a good thing you are speaking up. That brings in new ideas to the debate. No doubt there will be complications from going into Iraq, but I think that's a given.

Look at it this way: I've been to some countries where real attacks happen when people speak out against a government. Argentina, Colombia, Turkey, to name a few. Not to say that can't happen in the U.S., but it is less likely you or your family will disappear one night after you've voiced displeasure with the president.

Actually the people at Pelican Parts, even the very conservative ones, have been very understanding (for the most part). They aren't the problem. Yes, I have been verbally attacked elsewhere and even threatened. I have not been physically attacked yet. And what was I doing to deserve being attacked? Saying nearly the exact same things that I'm saying here. I did have to warn one person that if his threats continued, I would go to the police (not too hard considering that my father is a retired police sargeant), and the threats have ceased. I'm sorry if I made people think that people from Pelican were 'attacking' me; I should have been more clear when using the word "attacked."

U should be scared about whats going on....the world is a dangerous place, civilization is a very thin veneer, it always has been. During the Clinton years the American people put that fact out of their minds, it's as if we needed a vacation from reality after a 45 year Cold War...where the threat of Nuclear anhilation was an ever present threat......I was 10 years old during the Cuban Missile Crisis, I remeber having to climb under the desks for a drill in the event of a Nuclear attack..... the fact that Nuclear war is/was an ever present threat where there is no place to hide in the world from it's effects... creats a great deal of anxiety in people, that you might say is a fact of modern life. If you understand that then you can transcend your anxietys and see that there are actions that have to be taken in hopes of preserving our/western version of civilization.

Sounds like we spent 8 years with our collective heads in the sand skirting the real issues. No wonder Bin Laden considered us cowards.
