Ordering a new truck. What to look out for?
In the market for a dodge single cab 2500 cummins. Will be a custom order. Doing the g56, and manual transfer case. Went to my local dealer and they said it'll be 12-14 weeks. I guess this truck is quite unusual for them. I drop off the deposit in the morning. Anything I should ask bluntly to the salesman?
Hell if you guys have any fun questions. I'll report back with responses.

There is big markup on the extended warranties. Given this, you have lots of room to negotiate one into your deal. I was able to get a 200,000 km /7 yr extended into my deal for $1500. Squeeze this in once you have settled on everything else.

I was actually planning to delete this one and roll the dice on voiding the warranty.
Can you say; do you feel lucky?! I picked no bling. Manual everything. Less things to go wrong/break! lol

Get the extended warranty, be one of the happy people in the dealer service waiting area.
Got our Ram diesel through AAA and saved a few bucks. Costco has some deals on new trucks too. With AAA in 2015 we got the plumbers version no leather or nav with the crewcab dually 2wd diesel was 40k out the door. Powerful tow vehicle. |

Anyways, any issues you guys running into on the later cummins that warrant the extended warranty?! I know the late model was having bad front end steering parts break, but I'm sure they fixed that issue by now? All service will be done by me. Won't ever touch the dealer after it comes home unless they offer free oil changes.

Check with the largest leasing company in your area. They often get the best pricing. They may sell you a car directly for less than a dealer.

In some states you can not sell the car unless all recall items completed. Had the front frame mod completed. Still one recall in the works, forget what its for. I've heard of no mechanical issues with the drivetrain... ![]() |

I've made out well on extended warranties.
Just make sure you know who is backing the warranty. Often large dealers will set up a separate warranty company which requires the work to be performed by the selling dealer or you pay a deductible and any other dealer needs to submit and have the work / costs approved before service can be performed.

Dodge doesn't make trucks anymore. Sounds like a scam.

This is not the simple Cummins / dodge of the old. My friend's 15 truck has 60,000 miles and the nav / electronic stuff already showed its ugly head. He did get the extend warranty, thankfully.

Ask the sales guy how long the warranty on the "spark plugs" is, and who should change them. (Diesel doesn't have spark plugs).

I ordered a plain Jane, no thrills, manual everything. Puts me at ease of small stuff breaking, or excessive electronics. That's why I'm also leaning towards the deletes. Statistically low for failures, but at the same time the truck is hecho en Mexico, and failures do happen. The truck comes in December, so we'll see.

neighbor has one of those. Bought it new - was in his possession for about a month and then was back at the dealer for about a month getting something fixed
haven't heard him complain to much since but I see it disappear for a few days every now and then

If you are custom ordering, get Omaha Orange paint on it.

As others have mentioned, the Chrysler factory extended warranty can be priced very attractively to where it is almost a no-brainer.
I have a 2015 Ecodiesel half ton truck. When I bought it and sat in the "let's add a bunch of crap you don't need" office, where they sell you paint sealers and maintenance packages, the 100k mile / 7 year warranty started in the stratosphere, many thousands, and then ended up close to 2k when I continued to decline it. I decided to go for it, at less than 5% of the truck purchase price, it seemed decent insurance. Also, note that you can get your money back if you do not need any repairs in the 100k/7year time frame. So far that truck has been doing great. I am scared of the diesel emissions, after my VW TDI experience, so jury is out, and I am glad I have zero financial risk due to the warranty.
